Terry Kath was an absolute beast on guitar.

They were a flawless, innovative group; and Terry Kath was incomparable on lead guitar.

Chicago sucks. The original intent in forming the group was to “start a revolution,” and not the musical kind. Ok, so they had a lot of hits, but their songs are staid, lackluster and boring. Music is subjective; like them if you want, but my take is I will never miss hearing any of their music.

For “Questions 67 & 68,” the band name was “Chicago Transit Authority” which us teens in-the-know called “CTA.” But the REAL CTA in Chicago got made and made them change their name.

Innovation at the time was amazing. CTA, BS&T, Beach Boys, Santana, Diana Ross, Nazz, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Taj Mahal...nothing like that era ever since.

Awesome. Thanks!

Earliest video I’ve seen yet.

I always wanted to like the band, but the horns just ruined it for me.

Saw them in the summer of 70 (maybe 69?) in a small auditorium at Va Tech. They had just cut the cta album but it wasn’t yet known.

Blew my mind. Kath was a monster, the horns were hot.

Very innovative stuff at the time.

Great performance. I had never heard that tune before. I didn’t realize the band was from Russia until I read the notes.

This is the greatest early Chicago video that I have come across. A concert set from start to finish. No lip syncs, not auto tunes, no backing tapes. Just seven guys and some amps. Undeniable talent.

Chicago was in the Macy’s parade.

Nice, thanks for posting. I grew up in Chicago. Used to have one of their albums. What a difference in concert goers. Back then everyone is dancing and enjoying the music. No cellphones.

My first concert was Chicago Transit Authority, pre-abbreviation.
