“Deep Thoughts by Jack Handey.”
I had a couple of the “Deep Thoughts” books, but lost then in a move. They were hilarious!

What’s black, dangerous and lives in a tree?
Crow with a machine gun.

"The cassowary can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single swift kick."Kinda reminds you of Number 3 in that James Bond movie. Remember? "She had her kicks."

Now what bird was it that was ripping open the backs of live sheep and devouring the kidneys?

Looks like a domestic turkey. They can barely walk after a couple of years. I had a friend that bought a couple of them to raise for fly tying materials. The tom got to be enormous. Like Cornish Cross chickens, meant to be slaughtered at a fairly young age.
But, yeah, wild turkeys fly pretty well.

You'd need a lot of bird seed and a big cage.

Some hawks walk...or stalk...
The first three of the Burke novels were excellent; after that...some good, some not. This one is decent.
