The resale value of used ICE Toyota cars just went up.
That’s a surprise.
Plus added costs for impairment detection mandated for all. I thought it was originally 2025 but hearing 2026 now for forced implementation
At least it still has an ice motor it could be far worse
“more expensive”
No surprise since you are hauling around so much more machinery - conventional ICE engine, batteries, motors, highly customized system to blend the power of the two prime movers. Lots more machinery, lots more complexity, lots more weight, lots more to fail, lots more repair bills...
Car companies by necessity have to plan out years in advance. This decision was probably made at least 2-3 years ago. At that time the EV wave seemed unstoppable and it still may be. It is only recently that some of the real problems have become known with EV’s and they are big problems. Toyota was/is hedging their bets.
I’m surprised people still buy sedans. They aren’t useful for much more than hauling a few people and some groceries around.
Meh. Not really. Toyota is trying to thread a needle here with some green cred. They know EVs are a bust so they haven’t been wasting time on them. But hybrid is proven and acceptable to a lot of folks. And Toyota was on the front lines of that technology. So from a lot of angles this makes sense.
It’s not for me but a lot of people like them.
Not everybody needs a SUV, minivan or pickup truck................
Can’t stand CVT’s.
A couple of years back we rented a Camry to drive to Las Vegas from Northern California. The fuel mileage was great ( we drove big vehicles for our fair business,) but we couldn’t stand the seat design in the camry. We decided that a hybrid might even be a better deal and ended up purchasing a 2018 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid sedan with all the bells and whistles one could want. Averages out to 40 mpg and we are happy.
Frankly, I believe in hybrids over EV —yes there are drawbacks—but for fuel efficency its great.
The consumer should have the choice, not the government—otherwise we would all be driving those shoebox smart-cars.
I need, want, crave and enjoy my Jeep GC HEMI V8:
No more HEMIs after next year.
FULL ELECTRIC...........................
ZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz...
That’s a real shame.
Just like the highly successful Prius.
Mpg ?
Its really being forced on them by US Federal Government bureaucrats.
