No surprise since you are hauling around so much more machinery - conventional ICE engine, batteries, motors, highly customized system to blend the power of the two prime movers. Lots more machinery, lots more complexity, lots more weight, lots more to fail, lots more repair bills...
Just like the highly successful Prius.
