Meh. Not really. Toyota is trying to thread a needle here with some green cred. They know EVs are a bust so they haven’t been wasting time on them. But hybrid is proven and acceptable to a lot of folks. And Toyota was on the front lines of that technology. So from a lot of angles this makes sense.
It’s not for me but a lot of people like them.
A couple of years back we rented a Camry to drive to Las Vegas from Northern California. The fuel mileage was great ( we drove big vehicles for our fair business,) but we couldn’t stand the seat design in the camry. We decided that a hybrid might even be a better deal and ended up purchasing a 2018 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid sedan with all the bells and whistles one could want. Averages out to 40 mpg and we are happy.
Frankly, I believe in hybrids over EV —yes there are drawbacks—but for fuel efficency its great.
The consumer should have the choice, not the government—otherwise we would all be driving those shoebox smart-cars.
Its really being forced on them by US Federal Government bureaucrats.
I loved my Prius, but it cost a lot more to repair than a non-hybrid. Did finally die after 365,000 miles, though, with just standard maintenance.
