Tucker Carlson, the far-right former Fox news host known for his incendiary takes, might have actually made himself the darling of liberal Gen Zers. During a recent appearance on comedian Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast, Carlson, 54, took an unexpected angle: Supporting young workers who are exasperated by thankless work.
“I just so hate that culture that treats people like they're not people,” Carlson said. “And for what?"

Carlson went on to reference a video posted by a recent college graduate that went viral on TikTok. The poster, struggling with time management and work-life balance, told viewers she doesn’t understand how a typical 9-to-5 is sustainable.
“If I was able to walk to work, it’d be fine,” the poster said. “Nothing to do with my job at all…Being in the office 9-to-5, like, if it was remote, you’d get off at 5, and you’re home and everything’s fine.” But because her job is in person, “I get on the train at 7:30 and I don’t get home till like 6:15 earliest. How do you have friends? How do you have time for, like, dating? Like I don’t have time for anything, and I’m like so stressed out.”
Naturally, certain corners of the internet were quick to ridicule the poster, saying she needs a wake-up call. As Carlson put it, “Everyone's like, ‘shut up and work, honey.’” But he, famously short-tempered, took a more sympathetic approach. “I watch this, and I’m like, ‘no, no, I hope you win.’ The seeds of revolution are sprouting in my heart.”

It’s interesting how times and attitudes are changing. In my late parents’ day and my and my husband’s day, we commuted to our jobs, and we were glad to have jobs. It’s what you did. After putting in the time, we could retire with comfortable pensions. But now people can work from home, don’t want to go TO a job, and want more time for fun. I hope they can arrange things the way they want them without negatively affecting goods and services. Some things you have to show up for.

A 2 hour commute would be untenable. Understood. Time to relocate.
I can’t relate as I was 15 minutes from my dream job for many years, and then 2-5 seconds (bed to desk) when we hung our own shingle.
Calls to Phoenix from east coast came as early as 4:30, so separate bedrooms were necessary.
Later, my trusty Macbookair reduced commute to literally zero.
4 hours commuting every stinking day...egads.
I worked 8:30 to 5:00 for seven years…….one hour commute each way on public transpotation……
no problem….some people just want to whine .

Back then, companies valued good employees, and pensions were somehow magically sustainable for decades and decades.
It was not uncommon for someone to work 35 years at one company and retire.
Today, corporate America does not value good workers, and will layoff much faster than in the past. They will close a factory to race offshore for cheaper labor. They will declare the pension plan as a company asset to bump the stock price for executive compensation. Then turn around leverage the hell out of it, and sell off the parts and the pensions are gone.
Yet, we of the old generation put down the kids for not being loyal to the companies that have nothing but contempt for the “human resources”.
Tucker is closer to right than wrong.
Exactly. Boomers lived during this country’s golden age. No prior generation had it as good as they did, no succeeding generation will have it as good as they did.
If anything that video highlights the importance of living in close proximity to where you work. She says herself she’s not upset about the hours but about the commute. She mentions that moving close to her current job is off the table, so unless her current employer operates in other states/cities to which she could transfer, her only option is to get a new job.

Which is a job that is located close to where they habitat.
She’s in good shape, because urbanization which has been “on the march” since the 1960’s has peaked along with an aging demographics.(The whole globe is old)
It’s also surprising that with the over capitalization during the cheap money era, that she can’t find decent employment closer to home.
Again, we can thank the previous generations for importing armies of Third Worlders to work for slave wages.

Every generation that follows will work until their heart attack arrives and mercifully delivers them from this world.
And they'll die in the apartment they rent for $15k/month, --their parent's and grandparent's homes having long been sold off to global investment firms.
It was primarily the boomers that (a) imported the third world hordes and (b) shipped the good paying jobs to China and Mexico.
Young people have long commutes because living close to a decent paying job means taking the chance of getting raped, shot, or stabbed. Even here in Iowa the best paying jobs are in the areas infested with pavement apes. So, you are forced to get a place at least 30 minutes away from the “city”.
I would assume that it is much worse in more “diverse” states.

What her "ancestors had historically" was marriage and her first child before she was 20. She then stayed and worked at home, usually as a peasant.
Beginning in the latter eighteenth century, the Industrial Revolution drove women into factories.
A hundred years later, progressives were liberating women and children from factories.
Then 1970s feminism drove women into offices.
It's what women said they wanted.
The oldest Boomers were 19 when the 1965 Immigration Act was passed, opening the door to the Third World.

What I see in your comments is nothing but excuses, coddling and no regard for individual responsibility. There is definitely a loss of work ethic and discipline with many of the younger folks. I am recently retired but saw it first hand toward the end of my career.
I started out working on a farm when I was 13 for $1.25/hr. My first real job was in construction in the early 80s. Most days we started at 7 am but were at the job site by 6:30 and hoped to get done by 4 but usually never finished up before 5. In the summer when the days are long many of us worked side gigs or helped each other build our houses or garages or put on a new roof. Then the single guys went out in the evenings chasing women. Sure we had our share of duds that didn’t last a day, some were sent packing before lunch.
You mentioned digital social life. IMO that is a huge problem; digital in general. I really don’t think people (any age) realize how much of their day is spent (wasted) playing on smart phones.
My son and his wife, both late 20’s, are making a go of it, doing quite well. All my son’s friends from HS and college are doing well; married, having kids, buying houses, etc.
It comes down to what decisions one makes as a teenager along with some nudges. Focus on what you can control rather than all the perceived misery.
