The buyout amount is the largest in college sports history. Texas A&M University fired head football coach Jimbo Fisher on Sunday, committing itself to spend more than $75 million to buy out his contract and announcing a national search for his replacement.

I love football too… but when the downfall of America is studied, men’s obsession with football over the well-being of the Republic will be obvious. Circuses of bread and circuses.
The Aggies won their most recent game 51-10. Too late.
I solved that time robbing tradition over 40 years ago, when the wife and I decided to wean ourselves from the tube (me from football, she from soaps). It was easier than I thought it would be. It was old and needing a new volume switch (it was either too loud or not loud enough).
The only college and pro games I’ve seen since have been at relatives.
Played fb with the boys in the backyard while they were growing up. They would mark the ‘gridiron’ with ashes from the wood burner. I joined in one night after work. Yard light didn’t light the entire yard, and the dew was already setting.
I made a sharp turn at full gallop to tag oldest son near the sideline, in the dark, slipped on the grass and landed on the steel ash bucket I didn’t know was laying there. 3 broken ribs.
*** Where is his wife on this choice?***
Fisher’s second wife is all aboard the gravy train. They married in 2020.
I keep hearing that Texas A&M is one of the “top 10” coaching positions in the country, but I’m not even sure it’s one of the top 10 in the SEC, much less the country.
SEC: Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn. That’s 8 in the SEC alone that I would say is definitely more desirable than the TAMU job.
Outside the SEC: Ohio State, Michigan, Penn St, Oregon, Southern Cal, UCLA, Florida State, Miami, Notre Dame. That’s another 9.
TAMU can throw around the money, but they don’t win. They’ve never won. They haven’t won since Bear Bryant was the coach. You have to wonder if the place is jinxed.
Regardless of who pays, this is shameful.
They’re in the toughest division of the toughest conference, and they haven’t won a division championship. Surprise, surprise. No one has except Alabama, LSU, and Auburn in almost two decades.
Contray to popular belief, the SEC isn’t all that competitive. It’s been dominated by the 4 same teams for 20 years.
I’m a lot more worried about why Texas A&M has a campus in Qatar….
Texas and Oklahoma are about to make the same mistake.
Although the Aggies are a much better cultural fit for the SEC. Almost every SEC team fits the same mold. Small town of 100-200k people dominated by big university. The town has nothing going for it except the university, so it becomes a quasi-pro team for the region. Crazy fans who worship football like a religion. Weird traditions and tons of money from trial lawyer and corporate alums pouring in to build giant stadiums and multi-million dollar facilities.
The Aggies are a perfect fit for the SEC. Longhorns and Sooners are going to be miserable.
Dont forget about their fake championships in ‘97 and 2010
Texas A&M clarifies its cheap 'championship' claims, in fine print
The Aggies are great at faking it.
The crap you people care about. If the right ever gives up watching muh sportsball, we might actually be a force.

Well I know how to spend money too. There’s a house on the beach near to where we are from- they’re asking 4.5 mil. Cash. That and the $50 k per year in taxes, 20k/yr upkeep takes about 40 mil.
I’d have that plus what I’d already have from this overpaid pain in the ass
After that you know. $25 mil can’t she help out about30,000 student?
$75 million in this economy for a game at an institution that is bleeeeeding its customers, the students. For whom
They work is sick. Diseased.
No wonder tuition is so high
Students have to pay for this idiocy

”
Yeah I saw how “miserable” Texas was when they kicked Bama’s butt this year
Thanks.
I apparently didn’t read far enough.
Maybe they shoulda put their money into buying superior “Student-Athletes”?
I’ve already offered to not coach Texas A&M for half of that.
