On an unrelated note, does anyone remember when their mailman was a white male, presentable in appearance, wearing a uniform that was actually a uniform, generally friendly, and at least somewhat conscientious of doing a good job? Where I live I haven’t seen one of those in a very long time.

Yep. And UPS/FedEx drivers were clean-cut, friendly, DROVE ACTUAL FEDEX/UPS TRUCKS AND NOT RYDER/HERTZ/ETC TEMPORARY VEHICLES, and were known for acting as “eyes and ears” to help keep neighborhoods secure.

After high school in 1977 I entertained the idea of being a postal worker. Found out I wasn’t qualified as I was neither a veteran nor a colored man.
I still have one. Everything shows up when the phone says it’s supposed to, sometimes with speed that amazes me.
