NYPD cop killer freed by parole board despite execution-style murder as family fumes: ‘My brother’s never coming home’

A cold-blooded killer who murdered a cop execution-style outside a Queens nightclub will be a free man by the end of November — despite the heinous nature of his crime, the Post has learned.

Police Officer Paul Heidelberger was 28 when he was shot to death outside a Bayside, Queens, nightclub while off duty in 1992.

His killer, Patrick Bannon, was sentenced to 30 years to life in prison but the state parole board granted his release in October and he’ll be freed this month — making him the 38th convicted cop killer sprung in New York since 2017, records show.

“When he walks out of the prison gates, will my brother walk in and say, ‘Hey, I’m home?'” asked Heidelberger’s older sister, Anne Fullam.

“No. My brother’s never coming home.”

“This man, supposedly, has a child,” Fullam said.

“Paul never got the chance to be a father.”

Cops said her brother was out with friends on July 18 when he was shot after breaking up a fight and escorting people to their cars on Bell Boulevard.

This is unbelievable, THIRTY EIGHT cop killers released! I remember in the olden days killing a cop was a capital offense, death penalty. Not anymore it seems. Meanwhile Mark Chapman the killer of the King of the hippies John Lennon still rots in prison 43 years after the fact.

I remember when cop killers never saw the inside of a courthouse.

In NJ in the 50s there was a murder of two coppers in Lodi. The details were too salacious to be printed then albeit they were reported as perverted. One POS fled to NYC where he was holed up in a hotel. the local office asked higher command how to handle the arrest. They were told to standby as a special unit will handle. They bursted in and shot the POS 40+ times as he lain on a bed. The picture of his body had a handgun in his hand (which was placed). Case closed and filed. No long trial, no huge number of appeals, no mental evaluations, and above all no parole.

Back around 1962, when I was growing up in Queens, a nun was raped. My father was a member of he Holy Name Society in our parish. Two members were a father and son, who shared a profession (NYPD) and the last name Kelly. The younger Kelly told my father they knew who did it, and he would never see the inside of a courtroom.

Not only the police. Around 1980 some altar vessels were stolen from St. Anthony of Padua in Little Italy, in Manhattan. About a week later they mysteriously turned up (St. Antony Padua is the Patron saint of lost causes) and a couple of Melanzane turned up stuffed in a dumpster with their penises sewed into their mouths.

Well, the sentence was 30 years.

If he behaved in prison, it is hard to argue he should not be released.

The time to argue was 30 years ago.

Well he’s out and about now which gives the victims’ family an opportunity to exact their own justice however they see that.

The board uses a “risk and needs assessment” score that considers an inmate’s age and record while in prison more than the initial crime, a source said.

ELIMINATE ALL PAROLE!

DO THE CRIME, DO THE TIME!

No need for parole.

BUILD AS MANY PRISONS AS IT TAKES!

Good for good paying jobs in construction and then permanent jobs running/maintaining them.

win, win, win.

I think voluntary termination of life should be offered to all inmates. Why live like an animal.
