In NJ in the 50s there was a murder of two coppers in Lodi. The details were too salacious to be printed then albeit they were reported as perverted. One POS fled to NYC where he was holed up in a hotel. the local office asked higher command how to handle the arrest. They were told to standby as a special unit will handle. They bursted in and shot the POS 40+ times as he lain on a bed. The picture of his body had a handgun in his hand (which was placed). Case closed and filed. No long trial, no huge number of appeals, no mental evaluations, and above all no parole.

Back around 1962, when I was growing up in Queens, a nun was raped. My father was a member of he Holy Name Society in our parish. Two members were a father and son, who shared a profession (NYPD) and the last name Kelly. The younger Kelly told my father they knew who did it, and he would never see the inside of a courtroom.

Not only the police. Around 1980 some altar vessels were stolen from St. Anthony of Padua in Little Italy, in Manhattan. About a week later they mysteriously turned up (St. Antony Padua is the Patron saint of lost causes) and a couple of Melanzane turned up stuffed in a dumpster with their penises sewed into their mouths.
