There is so MUCH to wake up to!
International Intrigue.
National Intrigue.
Local Intrigue.
Sometimes, without even imagining it, the really BAD world hits you when you least expect it.
I am going to tell a story to you of a real life tragedy to hit our small town (4000 people) today.
This morning’s peaceful sunrise (at 7:30 am) was interrupted by the sound of gunfire which, in the end, killed a good friend of mine who was the meat manager at a local grocery store. It is our main grocery store and is about six blocks south of our house.
A total response included all local, county, state police; local ambulance and helicopter to fly the victim to University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City where he died.
As you can well imagine the town was upended with sirens all over and, as you would expect, a lot of rumors at the time with multiple ‘sightings’ of ‘a shooter’. He was in this part of town and then in that part of town. Schools were locked down and the whole county was under a shelter in
place order. Schools in 7 local towns were locked down.
My wife and I ‘thought’ it was safe enough to go about six blocks to our polling station to vote. (About six blocks east of our house.) Upon arrival, I received a text from County Emergency Management to shelter in place. I immediately showed it to the lady in charge of the polling station, and she blew it off and said don’t worry. (I thought she was nuts); we hurriedly voted and headed home. On the way home we were getting reports that there was an active shooter to the north at a factory about 4 blocks from our home.
We locked down our house immediately. Then the shooter was reported to be in a small town about 10 miles north of here. It was there that he was captured after being shot by an officer. He was airlifted to Iowa City also.
It was this evening, we officially learned the victim had died. My wife and I left a memorial of candles and a wreath at the grocery store.
This was all a very trying day. The victim, his store manager, and I are all Big Kansas City Chiefs fans and are always comparing notes, laughing, having a good time even if the Chiefs lost. I just talked to him Monday. I am so sad.
Now, as I searched Facebook for more information about of this day, I found this: The Creep was from East Dubuque Illinois and had been convicted on Meth charges and was to stay in jail until 2024. “Somehow” he got released and drove to Monticello Iowa. Last night he was observed driving on the wrong side of the road while hitting himself in the head. He then pulled into a Camp for handicap children. Two management people saw him come in to their lot and went to ‘check him out’, but he drove away.
He was next at the grocery store where the meat manager found him parked next to a loading docks where the perp shot him.
SO, here is the story about the creep’s Illinois judicial system encounter and ‘how’ my good friend was murdered cold blood. Granted the guy was “nuts” (a no, I will not mince words), but HOW did he get out early?????????

That’s it.
Now, for this little town, people are in total disbelief this could happen. I’ve asked several people what did they expect with all of the lunacy going on in the world and did they not think that ‘would come home’????? Our country, and now our town, is so messed up!!!!!!!!!!!!! When violence lands on your very own doorstep about six blocks away, people better get their eyes wide open and see they too are being victimized by the creeps in the world ! ! !
The ‘creeps’ come in all shapes and sizes. Ours today should be our ‘last’ - - - but, alas, I fear not. There are too many real signs of a reality that most folks cannot fathom.
1. We need to Pray.
2. We need to use wisdom and straight-thinking and discernment to truly understand what is going on and what needs to be done to overcome the EVIL Everywhere.
3. We need to prepare.
4. We need to ACT for our families, towns, cities, counties, and our country. (No one else is - - -if not us, then WHO??)
To those that read this, peace be with you.
Thanks for that first hand report.
Sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.
We all know the causes of the escalating crime of all types throughout the nation.
Will there be a return to sanity before we pass the tipping point.
At this juncture it seems to be doubtful.
cusp, I am sorry to hear of the tragedy that has befallen your town.
It is heartbreaking.
I am so sorry.
We never thought it could happen up here either.
In Maine, of all places!
He drove to the small city of Lewiston and killed 18,
but he lived in Bowdoinham, Maine with a population
of 789.He tore apart the lives of 18 families!
He shot himself in Lisbon Falls, which is about 5
miles from my house give or take.
This is not how I envisioned my “golden years.”
The world has changed, and we must try to bring it back
or learn to live with it.
Again, my sincerest condolances to you.
I am so very sorry for the tragic loss of your friend. Glad you and family are safe.
I won’t say that things are getting worse and we all ned to be vigilant. But things are getting worse and we all need to be vigilant.
I will pray for you, your wife, friends, and your town. I am sorry this happened.
Oh my....how awful. I just read this and looked up your town on google. Will there be any investigation to find out why this dangerous drug addict was let out of prison early? This happens so often. Is it a shortage of prisons? Just awful....so sorry for your town.
So sad to lose a friend that way. Small towns are not exempt from the evil.
“To those that read this, peace be with you.”
And may peace be with you cusp.
There is SO much EVIL happening in the world now.
Here where I live we WERE having drive-by shootings almost every night and homicides.
Yesterday where a friend of mine used to live there were police from all 3 towns there and swat team etc. Everyone was told to shelter in place. I haven’t heard what the outcome of that was as I haven’t turned on the news today.
I don’t go to stores anymore because of this. A few years back at a grocery store where my youngest daughter works a man came in a shot a women in the head. Thank the LORD she survived. And thank the LORD my daughter wasn’t working that day.
How very tragic…. When “the crazy” hits home and not a distant city, there is a real awakening
