This thread should be a template for how we choose the next Speaker.
Weed out all the bad ones till all you have left is the best.

The problem is, almost every single song from Boston’s first two albums was played to death on the radio.

Yes but you don’t have any good ones in there. There’s no “Layla” or “Elizabeth Reed” in that group
Still … good idea

No argument. They still are. That's why I listen to my music mostly in full-album form. I enjoy the transitioning from one track to the next instead of getting popped with a bunch of different 5 minute "mix tape" songs.
I generally get miffed at the radio stations that overplay the songs. The fact that Boston put out songs that are STILL being overplayed so many years later tells me that they truly are good songs. To have the staying power to be overplayed 35 years after putting an album out is pretty remarkable and, to me at least, Rock Hall worthy.

That’s not really true, and the new version of Styx have played it as their encore for the last 3 tours, the fans love it. Not my fave Styx song, that would be Put Me On, an older song. Styx were an ok band, when Shaw joined they were rockin for awhile until the fallout with Dennis.

It was the band members JY and Shaw who didn’t like doing Babe(a #1 hit) or acting on stage during the beginning of the Kilroy Tour. They kicked out the guy who gave them so many hit songs and now they sing his songs every night, weird. The things you have to do for money!

I hear you. Even reading the titles of their songs makes me ill.

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida has always mystified me for the following it has. I never really cared for the tune, that is until I saw a girl from my school give an impromptu interpretive dance to it at a party. Transcending erotic and going full raunchy, I had not seen a 15 yo girl behave that way before.
Boy did I get an education over the next few years!

I’m curious what the young people who weren’t overexposed to it, think when they first hear it.

Because virtually every band of that era had an acid period.

Most anything by Styx. 'Miss America' is a great tune.

Well, I like maybe 2 Springsteen songs. Can’t say I like any Neil Young songs, so I’d pick his catalog over Springsteen’s.

Better sing writer plus they were a keyboard band. I saw him two weeks ago at a tiny theater in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Terrific.
First saw the Moody’s in 1978 at Madison Square Garden with 20,000 people. Now seeing him 20 minutes from my how with about 500 people!!!

That was classic rock 20 years ago. Now it includes stuff up through the 80s or 90s too, as far as the radio format is concerned.

The album version or the live version?
To: tsowellfan
Big Journey fan. Have to get past the singles like loving, touching, squeezin and even Don’t Stop Believing which is overplayed.
Escape, the girl can’t help it, send her my love, where were you? Great songs.
