"I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better," she wrote in a statement.
Emily Blunt is addressing a recently resurfaced video from a 2012 talk show appearance where she can be heard using “insensitive” and “hurtful” language.
In the recently discovered YouTube clip from the U.K.’s Jonathan Ross Show, the Oppenheimer actress recalls going out to eat at a restaurant during her time filming Looper in the U.S. and then refers to a restaurant server as “enormous.”
Now, Blunt is apologizing in a statement shared with People magazine. “I just need to address this head on as my jaw was on the floor watching this clip from 12-years ago,” she wrote. “I’m appalled that I would say something so insensitive, hurtful, and unrelated to whatever story I was trying to tell on a talk show.”
Her statement continued, “I’ve always considered myself someone who wouldn’t dream of upsetting anyone so whatever possessed me to say anything like this in that moment is unrecognizable to me or anything I stand for. And yet it happened, and I said it and I’m so sorry for any hurt caused. I was absolutely old enough to know better.”
In the video circulating online, Blunt can be heard talking with host Jonathan Ross about one time when she ate dinner at a Chili’s restaurant while filming for the Rian Johnson-directed film. Ross proceeds to respond, “If you go to Chili’s you can see why so many of our American friends are enormous.”
Blunt added, “Well the girl who was serving me was enormous.” She also noted that the server recognized her while she was at the restaurant.
The Edge of Tomorrow actress starred alongside Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Willis and Paul Dano in Looper, which was released in 2012.
she is a decent actress.
played the female lead with Tom Cruise in Edge of Tomorrow, good sci fi flick.
also the female lead in the movie A Quiet Place and its sequel.
She is married to the kid who plays Jim on “The Office”; he also plays the Jack Ryan character on Amazon’s “Tom Clancy” series.
So why post? Bored?
As soon as you start apologizing for violating today’s standards with something you said yesterday, you’ve lost.
Oh please just get over it.
People talk about other people all the time this is the most normal thing in the world.
At least they’re keeping it in the family. Jack Ryan’s a lucky guy.
Yes, yes he is. I thought they were great together in “A Quiet Place”
I’ve seen her in The Devil Wears Prada...a surprisingly funny film. She was great in it...and not bad looking. That’s all I know about her.
“I am sorry for calling that big fatty “enormous””.
That's all that really matters. Never apologize for the truth.
She first caught my attention in an episode of Foyles War. A lovely and talented actress. Of course I’ve got a bit of a thing for classy English women.
Just Blundt being Blunt.
But, was the girl enormoose?
She is enormously stupid for apologizing for a 12 year old comment. She rates all the grief they give her because she is setting herself to take it up the whazoo.
Thus, I have no sympathy for her. Never back down or apologize to the leftist mob. Even if you are wrong. Do not do it.
I have several seasons of Foyle’s War on DVD but have only watched one or two installments Maybe I’ll look for her now that video binging season is approaching.
Let me be Blunt , who the hell is she? I had to go to the pics , she is not that attractive.
Who cares that she said this? Clearly the server WAS enormous. I hate how people are shamed for stating the obvious. Bunch of namby pambys.
Egad!
What is bad about calling a fat slob or a tall husky person “enormous”...
I have a son-in-law who is enormous at 6-8 and 285...
One of my great-grandsons called my weapons cache enormous and I wasn’t offended...
Merely another episode of the American Cultural Revolution, “Confess, repent and throw yourself on the mercy of the high Court.” She obviously wrong-thought.
She was the “posh” privileged young woman in some British movies, and it went to her head.
She was also Mary Poppins in the remake.
