I can't even imagine what this is like!
A woman in Atlanta, Georgia, was on vacation when she got a phone call from a neighbor asking if she was having her home demolished while she was away, because it was BEING DEMOLISHED.

The dude tried to tell the neighbor to leave him alone, not to get in his way, and when a family member came over and asked for proof the guy realized he had come to the wrong address entirely.
Dude bulldozed the wrong house! Then he just drove off like nothing happened!
Thank goodness no one was living there at the time.
Old boys just saw a boarded-up house and said, "That must be the one!"
"It's been boarded up about 15 years, and we keep it boarded, covered, grass cut, and the yard is clean," she said. "The taxes are paid and everything is up on it."
Hodgson said she's filed a report with police and has talked with lawyers but that they remain in limbo so far.
"We're still in this process of figuring out what to do," she said. "We keep pressing in different directions to see if something is going to happen."
She can't even get a call back from the company that tore her house down!
If I am this flabbergasted and frustrated, I can't even imagine how the homeowner feels!

Lady, you are being too nice. Get your legal-beagle and some muscle (preferably armed muscle) and pay the home office a visit. If not that, know this: in most states you can place a lein on another person’s property without even notifying them. Your legal beagle should already have done that to the tune of several million on the equipment used by the company.
If you visit the company in person don’t forget to mention that the owner could be slapped with a huge fine or even may do hard time if he has any illegals on the payroll.

“But look, you found the notice, didn’t you?”
“Yes,” said Arthur, “yes I did. It was on display in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying ‘Beware of the Leopard.”
People play too nice in this country.
One does not have to get angry or vengeful, but simply standing your ground, stating *This is wrong and needs to be rectified* and demanding it be done is good enough.
Don’t need to get nasty about it, but firm and unyielding.
They probably never knew or could prove who did it, Houston was a rough and tumble place in the 1950s.
And most of the other half are politically apathetic.
Heavy equip probably leased from another separate shell company owned by the same people to protect their assets from being subject to seizure from lawsuits. Fly by night construction companies have been using this shell game for as long as I can remember.
At least no one died ... happens often on “no knock warrant” SWAT raids on the wrong house.

Ya beat me to it.
I had a legally savy neighbor years ago, who had a legally stupid couple who intially were friends of hers. The smaet neighbor had a multilot property that allowed her to have another unit built attahed to one end of her house, and she allowed her friends to build and pay for building such a unit.
After quite few years the friendship deteriorated and the couple wanted/decided to sell their residence, built attached to my neigbor’s house.
The dummies did not read their contract that allowed them to build their place. It only made them owners or the edifice, not the land under it. They could “move” the edifice with proper care for detaching it from my neighbor’s house and would be liable for any problems that resulted from such a move.
They wound up abadnoning the unit (they could never find a buyer willing to assume the contract with my neighbor), with my neighbor getting posession of it for nothing, and giving her a rental unit.
90% stupid. And that’s being generous.
shhh....we can’t talk about differences in people because that might be intelligent.
The house has been boarded up for 15 years so it's not where she was living.
I will bet it is a ‘diverse’ owned construction company that has, no permits, no insurance, no experience, no physical address, and has more debt than the entire value of all their equipment. It’s Atlanta....

Obviously the screwed up but I can see how the demo company made a mistake....
Always remember, at least half the people you meet are below average intelligence.
I reckon all her stuff was inside. Geez.
The charges here should be criminal. And anyone involve should already be in jail awaiting trial.
I just googled the story and I’m pretty sure I found the house on Lakewood Ave in SW Atlanta.
Frankly, the company did her a favor by knocking it down. It needs to be cleaned up now, but if the company You Call It We Haul It ( https://www.youcallitwehaulit.com/ ) is found liable they can haul it for free.
