After years of cozying up to Vladimir Putin, Benjamin Netanyahu finds himself abandoned.
Russia has responded to Hamas’ slaughter of Israeli civilians with silence, false equivalencies and, in some cases, outright glee. At this point it seems obvious that the Kremlin is no friend of Israel’s and that Israeli President Benjamin Netanyahu’s strategic courtship of Moscow was a mistake.
When Russian President Vladimir Putin came to power, he made a concerted effort to strengthen relations with Israel. To this end, he helped establish visa-free travel between the two countries in 2008 and promoted Russo-Israeli cultural ties.
This rapprochement was significant given that, during the Soviet era, Moscow encouraged both legal and informal antisemitism, spurring thousands of Jewish Russians to emigrate to Israel.

After Hamas slaughtered more than 1,000 people in Israel this weekend, a chorus of indignation rose from almost all of the country’s friends — and in that din, Russia was silent.
For days, Putin made no calls to Netanyahu, even though the two men had a close relationship and had spoken 11 times the previous year. The Russian response to Hamas’ attack was to pin blame on the United States and call for a ceasefire, which would effectively leave Hamas off the hook.
At an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council, Russia joined China in condemning “all attacks against civilians,” but did not specifically criticize Hamas. Russia has also advocated that Israel pull its borders back to where they were in 1967 — a move which Israel has traditionally rejected.
Russia’s state media and online propagandists have celebrated the slaughter of Jews with barely-concealed joy.

We should kick Turkey out of NATO.
Putin’s weakness is that he needs the support of the Chechen (muslem) warlords and strongmen to keep his tenuous hold on power.
Russia’s only friend is Russia. Even that isn’t a good friendship.
I’ll wait a bit before giving an opinion. Remember, our lead in all the sanctions has some consequences.
I dont understand why you think they ever did Mr Zivo
Israel stabbed them in the back by sending weapons to Ukraine. Russia diplomatically asked them not to. Russia, China and other middle east countries are offering to help mediate a solution. It won’t be headed, Netenyahoo now has a firm government majority, his leadership is no longer at risk. Shazam!
I just think that you're one-dimensional and have no clue as to what's really going on in the world.
Evil anti-semitic Russians.
But we knew this already…..
Translation:
“I don’t have a dog in any of these wars” =
“I heart Putin”
Nope, I'm more worried about the corrupt SOBs in D.C. and what they're doing to our nation via open borders and endless wars than some KGB toady a half a world away.
What the hell did you expect? The west has been demonizing Russia for a decade. Now you expect them to come to our aid? You prove yourself more foolish with every post.
Tenuous whut ?
Maybe Russia could capture some of the ammunition Israel sent Ukraine to kill Russians with. The Russians could send it back so the Israelis can kill Palestinians with it. Of course, Israel could send what they don’t use back to kill more Russians. Would that be a friendly overture?
