A grandmother was savagely mauled by three pit bulls while walking down a neighborhood in Austin, Texas.
The brutal attack left Maria Perez, 55, with wounds requiring more than 100 stitches and now the family says they want justice.
On Monday, Perez was taking an evening stroll with her nephew near her home in Round Rock. A neighbor opened their front door and three aggressive pit bulls leaped out. The dogs started running towards Perez and her nephew. The pair were chased down a dead-end street but the nephew was able to leap out of the way, which left the pit bulls fixated on Perez.
"He was able to get away very quickly to come and get my dad," Maria's daughter, Cristina Perez, told the Daily Mail. "And when he got away, the dogs went after her and attacked her."

"On October 9, officers responded to the 1500 block of Merrell Cove in response to an unprovoked dog attack involving two victims with significant injuries. One victim was walking on the sidewalk when three dogs exited a residence after the front door was left open and attacked her," the statement reads. "In an attempt to help the victim and divert the dogs' attention, a nearby neighbor was also attacked. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for injuries. A seizure warrant was issued, and the three dogs have been taken to the Williamson County Animal Shelter to be quarantined."

Quarantined, then death.
“I stood down a pitbull once and he did stop.”
One ran at me about 90 miles an hour as I was jogging one time. I pulled out my Ruger LCP and pointed at him. As God is my witness that dog stopped dead in his tracks. You would have thought he knew what it was. I did not shoot him. The black owner came out and pulled the dog back to the house by his collar and never said one word to me.
I understand why people want to ban them, often they are aggressive and attack.
I get real nervous when public opinion gets behind a movement to enforce the will of a group of people over other people, most times this has unintended consequences and makes the matter worse.
If Pit Bulls were gone tomorrow, the people who own them would probably move to Rottweilers or some other aggressive dog and be just as irresponsible, next thing you know, Rottweilers would need to be banned, then other aggressive breeds.
Pit bulls. The Dindu Nuffins of dog owner world.
Mainly I was trying to stir up a bigger debate, about banning things that become unpopular.
You can’t reason with them :/
I’m afraid to take a walk down my block in nice weather because of the pits on my block. One of which roams free in the front yard.
F all the people who don’t see the truth and have no sympathy for those of us whose quality of life has been affected by this.
In the General/Chat forum, on a thread titled Pit bull attack leaves Texas grandmother hospitalized with over 100 stitches, srmanuel wrote: Substitute the word Pit Bull with Gun and the argument is the same. Should we ban guns when a lunatic shoots up a school ??? Absolutely not, the response is always, it’s not the gun it’s the owner, the exact same thing is true of dogs.
Guns don't run down the beach in pursuit of kite surfers and attack them. Guns don't break through the screen door of a home to attack a baby and her grandmother, and maul the baby to death as Grandma fights to save the baby.
Guns don't jump a fenced yard to attack a retired veteran prune a tree, rip off both of his arms and cause him to bleed to death.
More to the point, I've had dogs for many years of my life and so have my friends and the neighbors. None of us ever had one of our dogs spontaneously hunt humans if they 'got out'. This story, like so many others, starts with 'opened the door and 3 dogs came out'. Okay, dogs got out. The part that's different is hunting people and ripping their flesh.
I watched a video of a pit that 'got out'. It ran down the street, ignoring full sized adults, saw a child and ran diagonally through the intersection to attack the little girl as she was holding her grandmother's hand. Naturally grandma didn't seem to understand this dog was not playing as the puffy winter jackets obscured what was happening to the little girl. But one of the persons interviewed after the attack mumbled that he was in shock...."so much blood." No normal dog goes looking for 'small game' among adults, runs through busy public areas to 'take down' small prey.
Any breed of dog that is not properly socialize and trained will attack when it feels threatened.
No. Normal dogs bark, growl, and maybe bite and release. Pit bulls don't have to be threatened to rip, tear, kill, and eat. A child wandered too close to a big electronic gate to look at the big doggies there. They grabbed his ankles, dragged him under the fence, and the jury watching the footage was traumatized by the sight of the dogs disemboweling the child. Pit bulls never signed the 'pet-human' contract so people are 'fair game' when they want to go hunting. The rest of the time they're said to be sweet, loving, and will 'lick you to death'.
We have a case in our neighborhood where an older lady has a Golden Retriever that has attacked multiple people and dogs, it’s not seriously injured any yet, the association is trying to get the woman to get rid of the dog.
Yes. Other dogs can be agressive and should not be allowed to hurt people. Sounds like the retriever did the bite/release ( multiple times) whereas the pits bite and hold that bite while thrashing their bodies to rip off limbs, jaws, flesh. Retrievers are normally gentle. Pits are the dogs who kill and maim the most. A hospital performed an analysis of dog bite injuries and pits cause the most expensive, ICU/surgery or fatality injuries. There is no comparison between pits and retrievers.
Golden Retrievers are generally the kindest most good-natured dog around, you never hear of one attacking others, they do when they aren’t properly trained and socialized and owned by people that are too old to handle an 80-pound dog.
When I restrain a dog that's barking, it's not because I am trying to prevent it from killing the person it's barking at.
I've read exacting details of the owners who paid close attention and were dedicated to making sure their dog was properly socialized and still it doesn't work when the dogs regress to their inbred desire to attack/kill.
Biden has gone thru multiple dogs in the Whitehouse for exactly the same reason.
No, if Biden had pits there would be disfiguring lifelong injuries or death. I watched a video of someone in ICU mauled by a pit struggling to talk through whole body bandages. She was crying as she said, "It's not fair. I shouldn't have to lose my house because someone's dog attacked me (she had to sell her house to pay for the long series of surgeries and hospital stays ahead).
There's also the trauma - daughter on one side fighting to get the door open where mom has collapsed against it on the other side under attack from a mauling pit bull. Mom screams, "HE'S EATING ME!" as the dog methodically rips flesh from her calves and chews. Or grandma can't get over having seen the family pit jump up, grab the toddlers lower jaw, and detach it from the child's skull.
Emotional trauma, unbearable expenses, death - pit bulls are not domesticated enough to be residential pets. They should require certified cages and permits to own one - they stay in the zoo-type cage 24/7 or they are removed from the neighborhood.
There is a habit of pit advocates finding fault with owners. "She didn't weigh enough" "she opened the door too quickly (made a sound), "he rode his bike which provokes the prey instinct of a pit".
Someone eventually commented that apparently owners of pits must be perfect or people may die. They can never make the slightest human error or others people may be hunted and maimed/killed. This is how animal handlers in zoos have to be vigilant with wild animals, not how normal people have to be with a tame dog.
Time and time again, the story is the same: The pit was a loving family dog, never as much as growled... and then suddenly, a toddler is dead.
Why do you assume that every attack is the result of bad owners? Is every single pit owner "bad"? Either way, eliminating the breed would be a good thing.
I envy you- I’m in Illinois 😖
You’re right about what guns don’t do, but what they are capable of doing when in the hands of irresponsible owners who leave them laying around, they kill children that play with them.
Ask yourself, if Pit Bulls were gone tomorrow, what would the people who own them do, live without owning a dog or get some other aggressive breed like a Rottweiler, Malinois, etc....in the hands of irresponsible owners, each of those breeds would be just as big of a problem, do we get rid of them next.
Then consider, if we just banned the AR-15 it wouldn’t hurt anyone, they could still own any other rifle or shotgun.
If you look at the history of banning things that become unpopular if often times accomplished nothing and makes the matter worse.
“””I’m afraid to take a walk down my block in nice weather because of the pits on my block. One of which roams free in the front yard.”””
I have a woman who sometimes calls me to walk her home which is a couple of blocks away or stay with her while she waits for the bus and another female neighbor that I have had to walk over and help when dogs are loose and she won’t leave her vehicle to open her driveway gate.
The thought of what one of these pit bulls could do to those ladies is terrible.
Why do you assume that every attack is the result of a crazed animal and not bad owners.
I’ve said this multiple times in this thread.
If Pit Bulls were gone tomorrow, would those owners remain dogless or would they acquire another aggressive breed dog like Rottweiler, Malinois, etc. and be just as irresponsible.
The history in this country is banning things often times doesn’t solve the problem and often makes it worse.
“”””Ask yourself, if Pit Bulls were gone tomorrow, what would the people who own them do, live without owning a dog or get some other aggressive breed like a Rottweiler, Malinois, etc....in the hands of irresponsible owners, each of those breeds would be just as big of a problem, do we get rid of them next.””””
All of those dogs are already owned and out there, they are not killing an American every 9 days.
You keep pretending that any dog, or all dogs are roughly the same in killing and ripping people apart, what does it take to penetrate your illusions?
I've never said they were "crazed". Dogs have been bred for centuries for specific attributes. Pits, unfortunately, were bred to attack and kill. No antecdote of some one-off mean Golden Retreiver is going to sway reasonable people to believe there's some sort of equivalency that you are determined to promote.
Put the breeds I mentioned in the hands of irresponsible dog owners and they will likely become just like pit bulls.
Pit bulls are already in homes all over the country, if Pit Bulls are banned, do you remove them from existing homes ??
If you keep pretending that people are all roughly the same nothing changes and doesn’t penetrate your illusions.
And I never said all Pit Bull attacks are from irresponsible dog owners, see how that works.
“”””Put the breeds I mentioned in the hands of irresponsible dog owners and they will likely become just like pit bulls.”””
They already are out there and in the hands of any random person who wants a big fierce dog that intimidates people, and guess what, they aren’t killing an American every 9 days.
What is in your head that makes you think they will only appear if pits disappear and that they will also become pit bulls in traits and behavior?
How can you be so passionate and vocal about something that you obviously know nothing about?
“”””And I never said all Pit Bull attacks are from irresponsible dog owners”””””
Except for saying it over and over and over, “irresponsible”
has been your repetitive world on this thread.
So, yes, you HAVE claimed that the attacks are because of bad owners.
You have never owned (and never will?) a pit, so I don't get your stubborn refusal to see reason. But please don't respond because you're clearly engaging in this discussion for amusement.
People always assume something about me without knowing anything about me or my history, in this case with dogs.
When someone like yourself makes it personal by saying they know nothing, they are idiots, stupid or some other insult instead of just debating the argument, it shows more about them than me.
It’s very weak to accuse someone of something without knowing anything about them.
