A grandmother was savagely mauled by three pit bulls while walking down a neighborhood in Austin, Texas.
The brutal attack left Maria Perez, 55, with wounds requiring more than 100 stitches and now the family says they want justice.
On Monday, Perez was taking an evening stroll with her nephew near her home in Round Rock. A neighbor opened their front door and three aggressive pit bulls leaped out. The dogs started running towards Perez and her nephew. The pair were chased down a dead-end street but the nephew was able to leap out of the way, which left the pit bulls fixated on Perez.
"He was able to get away very quickly to come and get my dad," Maria's daughter, Cristina Perez, told the Daily Mail. "And when he got away, the dogs went after her and attacked her."

"On October 9, officers responded to the 1500 block of Merrell Cove in response to an unprovoked dog attack involving two victims with significant injuries. One victim was walking on the sidewalk when three dogs exited a residence after the front door was left open and attacked her," the statement reads. "In an attempt to help the victim and divert the dogs' attention, a nearby neighbor was also attacked. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for injuries. A seizure warrant was issued, and the three dogs have been taken to the Williamson County Animal Shelter to be quarantined."

Read this article, it probably won’t but it might enlighten you.

Labradors are just as likely to attack as pit bulls, a lot more Labradors are owned than pit bulls.
Ask yourself, what group of people have access to guns and use them irresponsibly, then compare that to who owns pit bulls that attack, they are likely the same people.
How do you know they are unprovoked, unless you read it in a news article, we all know the news media is never wrong.
—> What’s the common denominator, irresponsible people owning either one.
1. Special license, training, insurance for all pit owners
2. Shoot any aggressive pit
I carry to do my part on #2
The Dog needed 18 stitches ?! Did Sharks attack it ?
Round Rock is NOT austin. It’s a City North of austin.
if a pit bull attacks, they have to be euthanized, it’s unfortunate the dog has to die because often times a person has failed them, but it’s got to be done.
one of the things liberals often throw out as a way to control guns is special licensing and insurance, where do we draw the line, pit bulls now, guns later ??
Are pit bull owners punished for allowing their dogs to attack or being irresponsible owners, in most cases they are probably not.
srmanuel, please read post #9. You are the “romantic defender.”
1. Round Rock is not Austin.
2. Never ever run from any dog. A simple shout of “bad dog” or “eff off” with hand out palm out. Stand your ground.
“”””Here’s a more recent article indicating Labradors are just as likely to attack as pit bulls due to the number of labs in the country.

According to your link “Specifically, the American Pitbull Terrier is said to be one of the most dangerous breeds in America and worldwide. They are usually the breed most associated with unprovoked aggression and biting. Pitbulls and Rottweilers are responsible for 77% of all dog bites.”
I’m lucky that I’m in Texas, I open carry walking my dog. I do conceal in town though, just to be respectful. No license needed.
I’ve never owned one and I never will own one, I’m not willing to put in the time and effort to train them properly.
Are pit bulls aggressive, they are, but so are rottweilers, Dobermans, Shepards, Malinois, etc., they can all be dangerous animals if not properly socialized and trained.
A lot of the people who are irresponsible with guns are the same people who own Pit Bulls.
As far as seeing a pit bull turn the switch and attack, I’ve recently seen a golden retriever in our neighborhood attack multiple dogs and bite multiple people.
When I speak of the cases where the dog was completely unprovoked, I am just quoting the people involved. I’m thinking more of the cases where the pet has been gentle and kind with the children, and for no reason turned on them. I’m trusting the parent is telling the truth.
A dog is a living thing. A gun is not. Some negligence is required for a child to kill with a gun. We can’t ban cars because of careless people leaving keys in the car, or other mishaps with children. A gun is in the same category.
Banning a dangerous breed of dog will hurt nobody. A dog that is known to snap. Not having this dog available does not make a darned bit of difference. There’s lots of dogs. I realize we will never eliminate all dog attacks, but the pit bull is notorious for this and they’re so strong, they often cannot be stopped.
What if someone wanted a nice lion for a pet? A nice bear? Tiger? There’s a reason dangerous animals are not allowed, especially in more populated areas. AFAIC, pit bulls should be on the list. Best we just agree to disagree.
Are we talking about banning Rottweilers because they are one of the most dangerous breeds in America ?? I haven’t seen it if we are, the same article also said Labradors are just as likely to attack as Pit Bulls.

I’ve had a Chihuahua chewing on my shoe while I talked to someone.
You don’t seem to know the difference between a biting (technically an attack) and a killing attack (an attack to the death), or killing attacks that are barely survived with limbs missing and calves and arm muscles and face torn off.
“”””Are we talking about banning Rottweilers because they are one of the most dangerous breeds in America ??””””
From your own source you are comparing 51 deaths over 18 years to pit bulls which are killing an American every 9 days on average, along with massive numbers of crippled and disfigured survivors.
“Research estimates that Rottweilers are responsible for about 535 attacks on humans over the last several years, causing at least 51 deaths since 2005.”
“In 2022 Pitbulls were responsible for 41 attack deaths in the U.S.”
This is what my husband says. He encounters different breeds during his workday and says there was only one time that his taking a commanding stance did not work to calm or prevent aggression.
We will just agree to disagree, negligence is not unique to gun owners for them to kill, dog owners are often just as negligent.
Just look at the argument, banning a dangerous breed won’t hurt anyone, many other breeds exist.
Neither will banning the AR-15 when you can own any other rifle, shotgun or pistol, we shouldn’t do either one IMO.
Lions, tigers and bears are not now and have never been domesticated animals, millions of pit bulls are.
Pit Bulls are strong, so are Rottweilers, Malinois, Shepards, etc...
No problem.
Pit bulls in Austin gotta be DemocRATS.
Yes and how is that any different than what a lion or tiger could do. Geesh. Only difference is you die sooner with the big cats.
