I am looking at relocating to Idaho, I do not have a preference on location, but I would like to be near the forest, rather than the plains. I am more concerned with finding work. By trade I do industrial automation/millwright in food plants. Any suggestions or leads would be appreciated
that sounds about right. I drop down to CDA about once a month, and to Sandpoint probably twice a month because I have to take my mom to Walmart. She’s 94 and loves to shop.
I understand. On the few occasions that I have to transact business in a bank or credit union, no one even blinks at either the SIG 229 or the S&W 629 I happen to be carrying. Found moose poop in the back yard a couple of days ago, so there’s that.
Bless your mom & you for taking her on her outings. My mom used to love going to the Amish Country in Pennsylvania and I have lots of happy memories of taking mom there on long drives when she got too old to drive.
Im in a pretty remote area, but my road is a county maintained plowed road. I don’t mind the lack of services. I also don’t mind getting snowed in. We are prepared for long stretches of being snowed in without power. I can get out to hwy 2 with my 6x6 military truck thats also chained up and has a fixed V 10 foot plow on front. Medical emergency services here are often helicopter services when weather permits. Its a lifestyle choice.

LOL...same here in July. A huge pile in the front yard. He or she snuck in and out under cover of darkness without alerting the dog or us. We’ve seen them about once a year for almost six years.

Yep. I would have loved that 30 or 40 years ago, but not in my 70s. It’s enough work setting this place up for summer and tearing it down for winter (middle of winterization right now).

Wow, you are ready for anything!
You could tell that it was grass eaters poop. Moose metabolism has a ways to go before they go into winter twig and bark eating phase. I don’t mess with the moose.
Dont need a Visa if your a NBC and veteran.
Small turnout, they tried to protest our local gun shop claiming they were racist (the owners are asian and hispanic). Must ha e been 150 of us for the ANTI-QUEEFA welcoming committee. They drove past, yelled some bad things at us and then dissapeared down the road, it was hillarious.
I retired 12 years ago from a Oakland Ca company and lived in Stockton, so the hardships living remote are nothing to me compared with having to illegal carry a concealed weapon for safety. Im pushing 70 and workout 4 days a week for both health and enjoyment. But I also have family here that helps me with the biggest projects I get myself into.
Too late. The californicators have taken over and Somalis are everywhere affordable. I have watched dumoy old houses go up 5 fold during the pndemic up north from californicators working remotely, There is not much of an industrial base in Idaho for automation work. Maybe the sugar beet processing plants but those are on the plains.
Boise has become a dumping ground for violent Somalis and other assorted raprfugees.
If you like potato’s then move to Idaho : )
Move to Asotin County (Clarkston) right across the bridge to Lewiston. Get the best of both worlds, no state taxes in Washington and by your gas in Idaho. They have mills there where you can get work. Here’s a link to Clearwater Paper employment website:
I am looking for constutional freedom more than anything else, and Idaho is the last bastion of freedom in this country. But yes, I effing love potatoes, its the miracle food, from breakfast to dinner, and makes the best vodka you can find.
Never to late. I have been a proponent to the Greater Idaho movement, I just wish they included Eastern Washington not just Oregon. Idaho can become a powerhouse in the electoral college. From the Cascades East would take away electoral votes from the I-5 corridor. Half of both Washington and Oregons electoral vote would be red shifted to Idaho.
Why do you think people are moving from California to red states and implimenting their beliefs? It is textbook “Rules for radicals”.
Throw a frog into boiling water and it will jump out. Put a frog into warm water and slowly bring it to a boil, and it will stay and cook. Look at Alaska and Texas for an example. They were both solid red states, now they are purple.
This migration is a slow genociced of our freedoms. It reminds me of the Bhagwam Rajneesh, and Sheela in Antelope Oregon (I lived through that). Washington is a dead lost cause, but If I can give one more conservative vote in the last free state, its better than an cancelled vote where I am at.
