Two people and their dog were found dead at Banff National Park on Saturday after a grizzly bear attack.
A GPS device alerted Parks Canada on Friday night, indicating a bear attack was happening within the Red Deer River Valley region west of Ya Ha Tinda Ranch in Canada’s Banff National Park... Due to poor weather conditions, an emergency team reportedly could not fly to the location via helicopter, so they traveled by ground during the night.
When the team arrived at the scene, they reportedly found two individuals who were deceased and ... The victim’s identities have not been released... Their family dog was also killed during the attack.
...
“They lived for being in the backcountry and were two of the most cautious people I know. They knew bear protocol and followed it to a tee,”
...
The bear responsible for the attack was later found and euthanized after it continued to display aggressive behaviors, Parks Canada said
He killed it with a 41 cal Revolver.
So I asked the experts in the gun shops up there what they recommended for my S&W 686 + (7rd .357).
They said 200gr Hardcast, because it penetrates well and breaks bones.
Yep. That’s the same protocol I follow. My dog’s job is to give me a few seconds warning. My job is to empty my 44 magnum into the Bear’s face.
There is also a 357 maximum, but you have to load your own.
Anyways a 10mm is a great choice.
I could not leave my husband behind. I would fight till I died to save him.
I think it happened exactly as you suggested.
“Well ....
Man...
That’s just like...
You know...
Your Opinion...

Just like that movie “The Edge” with Sir Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin.
180 gr. HARD CAST Bear Repellent...
Is My Choice.
I’d say the Bear knee what It was doing.
Timothy Snackwell is another lost soul.
So, here he is, some flat-lander from Seattle or Portland, a writer, in this small Alaskan town, and he comes across two young boys who are meandering down some dirt road.
He watches them, and they are playing kick the can, kicking it down the road, picking it up, throwing it as high as they can and catching it on the way down. One of them throws some rocks in the can, and throws it, making it clatter.
From looking at their clothes, he can tell their family must be pretty poor. The clothes are worn with some holes, dirty, and so on. He realizes they likely don't have a dollar between them, definitely no video games or computer, but they are managing to use the empty cans to entertain themselves.
He stops to talk to them, and he says to them something like: "I am really impressed. Down where I live, kids your age would be in someone's house, playing videogames, but up here, you don't have anything like that, but are entertaining yourself by filling cans with pebbles and kicking them around!"
The kid looks at him like he has three heads, and says "Entertaining ourselves? These cans with the pebbles are to make noise to alert any bears so we don't come face to face with them! Those bears will kill you if you just bump into them by accident! We aren't playing with these cans, we are making noise with them! Don't you have a can? Where's yours?"
The guy suddenly realizes they were throwing the cans around and kicking them to make noise and warn away any bears that might be in the area, and suddenly feels vulnerable. He says to one of the kids: "Er, I don't have a can. Could I borrow one of yours?"
The kid hugged the empty can to his chest and says: "No way! If my dad caught me out here without one, I would get a whipping!"
When Snackwell got eaten up along with his girlfriend, the audio that was on, indicated that Timmy yelled to his girlfriend to get away, but she attempted to stop the bear by hitting it with a frying pan or something.
That battle has been ongoing for years.
WA says there is no reintroduction about it.
There were never grizzlies in the cascades.
Only if you want to amuse the bear.
I think that’s the scenario.
Am I mistaken in thinking it is a very bad idea to bring a dog into known Grizzly country?
I scored 180 gr. Barnes but 230 ??
Any bear ain’t having it’s way wit Me!
Self-defense not allowed in Canada.
bkmk
“Someone explain to me how a bear can kill 2 people and a dog, how did at least one of them not run away?”
Timothy Treadwell’s girlfriend, Amie Huguenard, stuck around hitting the bear with a pan trying to save Treadwell even while he begged her to run away.
Just like that movie “The Edge” with Sir Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin....
That’s a really good movie...even with Alec Baldwin.
Are you talking about the Todd Orr attack in 2016?
