A father-of-two has sparked fierce debate after telling his daughter that she was a 'disappointment' after having a child aged 18.
The unnamed man, believed to be based in the US, took to Reddit's popular Am I The A**hole (AITA) subreddit to reveal the details of the family feud.
He said that he had urged his teenage daughter to get an abortion after finding out she was pregnant - but was left 'very upset' when she refused.
And other social media users were left bitterly divided at the revelation as they rushed to share their own thoughts on the matter.
In the post, which was titled 'AITA for telling my daughter she's a disappointment?', the man set the scene by revealing he has two daughters - aged 23 and 20 - who are 'both so beautiful and smart.'
He said that he had 'always wanted them to be strong and independent women who could stand on their own feet and I tried to raise them that way.'
But the dad-of-two revealed: 'My older daughter quit both sports and school when she got pregnant at the age of 18.
'When she first told us that she was pregnant, I was very upset and advised her to have an abortion because having a child at such a young age would disrupt her life.
'She did not want to have an abortion and my wife supported her decision.
'To be honest, I was very insistent on her having an abortion at that time, but when I saw that she remained determined, I dropped the issue and supported her fully, even though I didn't want to.'

Teddy Bear: And on the long term basis he continued to tell his now married daughter that he is disappointed in her because she did not turn her child into mulch.
Maybe I misread the part of: "To be honest, I was very insistent on her having an abortion at that time, but when I saw that she remained determined, I dropped the issue and supported her fully, even though I didn't want to." That to me sounds like someone who got over the initial shock and came around. As Christians we shouldn't believe in forever condemnation of someone who has conviction and repents. So yeah, talk that person out of the wrong (conviction), but always with an attitude to change gears to encouragement when the wrong is no longer being done (repentance). Let the left be the cult of condemnation (cancel culture).
It’s usually the mother.
Does the article ever make a point?
The unintended consequence is that it keeps the issue alive creates a discussion. Note the discussion.
As Christians we shouldn't believe in forever condemnation of someone who has conviction and repents.
Except he didn't.
'My wife told her that even though I wanted her to have an abortion, I love my grandson very much now.
'My daughter asked me if that was so, and I said, "Of course I love him." I really love my grandson, but my daughter knew that I was bothered by her situation, so it didn't sound sincere at all.
So yeah, talk that person out of the wrong (conviction), but always with an attitude to change gears to encouragement when the wrong is no longer being done (repentance).
But once again the wrong is still being done.
'My daughter said I could give an honest answer. I told her that I really love my grandson but that I was disappointed that she had become a mother at an early age, had left school and her job and was now dependent on a man.
So to recap, he not only wanted her to kill her baby but has continued to visibly show that he really wishes she had killed her son because it is far more important to work sixty hour weeks at a job where you do not make enough to pay off your student loans.
I personally would not leave the little boy alone with grandpa because he might decide to "forget" him in a hot car.
I know so many people with kids at 18, from my own mom to countless others. We seemed to have survived it all as a species.
I never remember the Republican Party telling people they are going to hell.
Nicely said.
I even saw a post that said she’ll have a very difficult life. In context, because she gave birth as a young adult.
That’s a sad take on it.
But here is where I think this needs to be talked about. A leftist rag is making the father out to be a bad guy. This is telling. There is some sort of gaslighting going on here.
This bird cage lining would normally praise the father for taking a stand against bringing a baby into a planet that will die soon of global warming. Why did they change their narrative?
To screw with our heads, that’s why. This entire article - if it’s even real - has something more sinister behind it. Tread carefully.
selective outrage....
one either believes in abortion or they don't....you either welcome a grandchild or you don't and you just can't wait til the little guy is born and is as cute as a bug's ear....
Thank you.
You have no idea who is and isn’t going to hell.
did you just call this unwed mom to be a whore? What an AHole you are. you offering the same condemnation for the idiot who knocked her up? It takes two.
normalization
the “Am I The Asshole” subreddit is a shining example of why reddit is the turd-filled toilet of the internet
shut up about who is going to hell. are you the hell hall monitor?
Not everybody thinks/believes like u do.
Some men are the most fervent advocates of abortion. Many women have related how they were brutally coerced by their consorts to have an abortion. It was no “free choice”.
Someday women will realize how abortion became legal and too easy. Irresponsible men didn’t want the responsibility. And ignorant women have been convinced to murder their own babies to comply.
Same here, Ray. He just turned 13, a really great kid. My hope is that the dad make a full throated, public apology to his daughter. The most favorite word in my vocabulary is “Opa”, German for grandfather.
Breaking with FR tradition I read the article and I do think the guy is an a-hole. His daughter got pregnant, married the father of the child, and now their family makes the sacrifice to be single income so she can stay home to raise her son.
Dad is pissed that his daughter didn’t set herself up financially prior to having the baby and dislikes that her new family has traditional roles where the man earns a living and the woman raises the child. He thinks she is “dependent” on her husband.
I can tell you if she is “dependent” on her husband he is “dependent” right back. I would be pissed if my daughter got pregnant young but I would be proud of how she handled it going forward. This dad isn’t an ass for his initial reaction, he is an ass for his ongoing disapproval.
And so she behaves in the way you said you raised her to be and now she's a *disappointment* to you?
She's better off without you in her life.
