Consider this:
Joe knew Hunter was a polydeviant.
He was \blackmailing\ his son with the info.
Hunter resented it but could do nothing about it as his father was Senator/VP/POTUS.
The arrangement kept him in hookers and blow.
Thus, we have all the cries for help on his laptop.
“Joe knew Hunter was a polydeviant.”
The old, “it takes one to know one” thing, I guess.

IMO, nobody really cares about Hunter. They are using Hunter and the laptop to get Joe. The laptop must be full of info on old Joe.
