The new generation is better but it’s still artifical turf. You blow out your achilles and knees because the ground does not give way.

The University where my wife retired had a soccer pitch covered in the latest version of artificial turf. I made it a point to do a little running on it. It felt better than natural ground. There was a good pad under the grass. I can see friction burns, but not a problem with joints or falling. It felt good on my bunged up, arthritic knees and ankles.

But my experiences may not be everyone’s.

I am no doctor but I can imagine playing pro football at 39 make anyone more susceptible to injury.
