A shocking video of tourists sprinting towards a bear at Yellowstone National Park has gone viral and prompted backlash on social media.
The clip shows a mother black bear and her two cubs sniffing around in the grass, alongside a road full of queuing cars.
Suddenly, a group of tourists jump out of their vehicles, point, and then begin to sprint towards the bears.
There are four men running, one of whom appears to be carrying a toddler in his arms, while a woman comes into shot approaching the animals with a camera.
Thankfully, the mama bear and her cubs seemed to be startled by the approaching people and quickly ran away from the cars.
However, people on social media have been quick to point out that the situation could have ended up very differently.
Journalist Yashar Ali shared the video on Twitter, calling their actions 'absolutely insane' and 'sick'.
Responding to the video, someone else wrote 'We witnessed this happening about 12 years ago when we visited Yellowstone. People yelling at their kids to run toward mom and cubs. CRAZY.'
Another said 'The multiple things that could go wrong here. Wow.'

Years ago we were on a winter church retreat. One of the guys there was from a rough part of town. He left the sledding hill to walk back to the main camp and decided to take a shortcut. Of course he got lost.
I was part of the search party. (It was rough country. The sheriff was on the way with with a helicopter when we found him. Pretty hypothermic.)
He said he was walking across a frozen lake when he saw three deer. He got scared and ran.
I said “they were more acared if you. Those deer never saw a black man before.”
A very commmon question for the Rangers at Rocky Mountain National Park:
“How old (large) are the deer before they become elk?”
There is no way to underestimate the intelligence of humans
Darwin may have been wrong about evolution, but he hit the nail on the head with his Award to Stupid People.
An alarming number of people get eaten by alligators here in SC.
Black bears that are hunted are easy to spook or scare off by running at them and making loud noises.
I have treed several by sounding like a dog.
Bears that haven’t been taught respect for humans are a different matter.
God, that looks delicious. I frigging love Elk.
Wow. That’s unbelievable.
There are a lot of people out there who think bears are these big old loveable, goofy creatures that they see in Disney cartoons.
Get used to seeing more of this. There are hordes of stupid people crossing the Texas border every day. Most do not understand that animals can kill. Yogi Bear & Boo Boo on a TV is as close as they’ve ever come to a bear.
Parents win the Darwin award?
Yes, people are moronic, but the media and movies do not help the matter any. Just a few days ago here on FR was a story about how grizzlies were eating only wild berries. Absolutely no mention that they eat meat and are deadly killers that eat their prey alive. Stories like that and dumb movies showing bears as pets help dumb down the public.
I’m rooting for the bear.
Only ask because they seem to be the most common.
No real wild animals left in China, they ate them. So they have no idea how dangerous wild animals are. Japanese do the same as do Europeans. People from India, Africa and South America live in places where wild animals are still wild and dangerous and as a general rule, know better.
My area has a lot of people who come to hunt. At least once a year we have someone injured in a way that shows this concept is wrong.
The hooves are wicked sharp.
Some people still believe in the popular delusion that bears are soft, warm and cuddly. Soft, warm and cuddly applies to imitation bears made out of cloth, not real bears.
The bears need to start weeding the gene pool of stupid.
That was an amazing video, the guy taunting the lion who then, quick as a blink of an eye, latched onto the guy’s finger, and, determined, never let go.
I don’t thing I ever, in my life, laughed at someone getting a body part removed by a lion, but I did laugh at that dumb ass.
Oh just like the movies , if there’s shooting or an explosion people run towards it to see what’s going on ,LOL
Yellowstone bears are never hunted unless they stray out of the park.
Humans on the other hand who haven't been taught to respect bears (especially mama bears) often end up as bear scat.
