Who knows motorcycles?
Self

Posted on 09/03/2023 2:24:23 PM PDT by Tacrolimus1mg

I've been looking for a bike for a while, and seeking a dual-sport to mostly ride around town and on a family friend's forested property. Cars I speak pretty well, but motorcycles are a foreign language to me. I'm seeking advice.

Used or new doesn't really matter, but the budget is $5k, and I previously had a 2023 KTM Duke recommended to me. I liked it, and it was small enough for me, which I think is the biggest issue next to some chronic pain in my left arm that might make a clutch and engine vibration painful.

I'm 5'2", and of an overall small frame. I want to make sure that I can handle whatever it is and that my feet reach the ground when at a standstill. I'm expecting it to be torquey given its purpose, but the lesser end of that is ideal.

Any and all help is very much appreciated - thanks!

A Suzuki DR200 is a good choice for a first dualsport. Low seat height, easy to maintain, and easy on wallet.

Royal Enfield 650 interceptor standard. You can touch ground, ABS, classic standard style and position. And skips a lot of the crapware microchip infested things Triumph and others load up the bikes with.

Look at the Honda Trail 125. Good for just knocking around and it is not likely to get away from you. Easy to ride. Good in the woods at slow speeds.

I know there are two kinds of riders…
Those who have had accidents, and
those who are going to have accidents…

5-2 ?

Good luck.

( I’m 5-5 and dual sport challenged also.)

Itchyboots is also short and she chose a

a single-cylinder
Honda CRF300L Rally

I want a KLR 600 but it’s a one tippytoe bike at my height so that’s not something I’m comfortable with.

She’s rode that bike from the bottom of South America to the top of Alaska on mostly dirt roads ,, pretty impressive bike really.

There is a third type of rider, one who never has an accident. I rode for 20 years and 250,000 mi, can’t ride anymore because of a stroke.Well I got through my riding career without an accident.
