Headlines about brain worms can be alarming, but there are more common parasites that can infect your body, says a Western Sydney University professor.

News reports on Tuesday morning (Aug 29) describe how shocked doctors removed a live worm from a woman’s brain in a Canberra hospital last year. The woman had previously been admitted to hospital with stomach symptoms, dry cough and night sweats and months later experienced depression and forgetfulness that led to a brain scan.

In the case study published in Emerging Infectious Diseases journal, doctors describe removing the live 8cm-long nematode (roundworm) from the brain of the 64-year-old woman who was immunosuppressed.

The worm was identified as O robertsi which is native to Australia, where it lives on carpet pythons. The woman may have come into contact with worm eggs via snake faeces while foraging for Warrigal greens to eat.

And we often hear now about the brain eating amoeba N. Fowlii that kills almost everyone who gets it. Maybe they will try ivermectin on those people. Id be doing ivermectin and oil of oregano and high purity allicin, among other things.

The reason brain worms are rare is because they can’t live in the vacuum that exists in the vast majority of peeople’s skulls.

A dose of Ivermectin a day . . . keeps the doctors away?

That was my first question on reading the lead in.

The dogs got their monthly Ivermectin for heartworm prevention today, on the full moon. Horse paste properly dosed is a LOT cheaper than the vet-prescribed and sold doggie stuff.

I take my dose quarterly now, months 1-4-7-10, with the dogs. Also horse paste. If it were cheap and OTC like in many countries, I’d take that, but they make it expensive and a hassle to do that here.

I hate it when that happens!

But it was only fantasy
The wall was too high
As you can see
No matter how he tried
He could not break free
And the worms ate into his brain

Pretty tasty but would be better with a dash of cinnamon and nutmeg IMO.
