(Reuters) -Hawaiian Electric's shares jumped more than 40% on Monday after the utility said its power lines in West Maui had been shut down for more than six hours before wildfires started in the area during the afternoon.

Hawaiian Electric said on Monday that a morning fire on Aug. 8 caused by power lines that fell in high winds was subsequently reported "100% contained" and later declared "extinguished" by the Maui County Fire Department.
The utility said another afternoon fire started in the same area more than six hours after all of its power lines in West Maui had been de-energized, which could not be contained by the fire department and spread out of control toward Lahaina.

“Is it me, or is something not adding up?”
What’s not adding up to me is that we haven’t heard this until now.
It’s much easier and less expensive for a developer to deal with a non-resident heir than the living owner resident.
What they said did.
Now granted that it is almost a toss up as to who you believe, the government spokescreacher or a public utility spokescritter you have to remember that the government in question is that of Hawaii and so I would have to give the public utility company a slight edge.
Especially since the government continued to screw the pooch, cat, bird, snakes and any pet mice they could find all through out the event.
Messing up at that level takes real talent.
“I hate to admit it, but this latest information about the power lines points to arson as a cause.”
I am in “Pollyanna” mode, thinking maybe some homeless person had a fire that got out of control. Early morning drunk or stoned and did not attend the campfire.
Seems like the power company did what was needed (they say the have records to support that), not a fan of the “energy beam weapons stuff”. So we have various agencies that failed at critical times, police, fire, and several government agencies, water, etc. They seemed to have been staffed with people who had some Hawaiian native goals and no real disaster training
“ and the video showing them causing the fire???”
*****************************************
Do you have a link to that video?
Powerlines could very well have been down without police or fire knowing if they’re energized or not.
Based on Canada, Greece, and (in recent years) California, I am now coining the term “Environmental Reichstag Fire”.
No matter how many arsonists are arrested, the government and the media call it “climate change”.
“ Powerlines could very well have been down without police or fire knowing if they’re energized or not.”
One phone call could have taken care of that issue in less than a minute.
L
Australia as well.
You can almost guarantee that any official report will be released weeks after anyone is reporting on the wildfire, and only then a whitewash of a report will be quietly posted on a government website at 4:59 pm Hawaii time on a Friday.
Somebody knows more than they’re saying.
i saw it on twitter couple days ago
a ring cam video, it was dark and you could see a large white flash illuminating the surroundings theu the trees and sparking a small fire
i’ll look see if i can find it
6 hours before the wildfires even started? Can you say “planned event”? I know you can.
“The utility said another afternoon fire started in the same area more than six hours after all of its power lines in West Maui had been de-energized, which could not be contained by the fire department and spread out of control toward Lahaina.”
Somebody is lying and trying to cover their rear ends here.
Since the first conflicting reports came out, I was wondering how ‘islanding’ might have played a role in energizing the lines. No, that’s not a pun: It’s a solar energy term.
“Unintentional/unplanned islanding” = Non-utility power generation energizing grid power lines during a grid outage.
Solar systems are supposed to have anti-islanding installed to prevent such a scenario with grid-tied systems, but unintentional islanding is a factor.

I find it interesting that no one is publicly asking the right questions of Maui or HE officials...
why are they putting fences around the burnt area?
Why no drone flights permitted?
Why no residents permitted to return to their homes?
Why is nobody permitted to stop and look or photograph?
Why excessive LEO presence guarding the crime scene?
Oops...did I say crime scene?
What are they hiding?
“Only the gullible believe the Narrative on this one.”
You mean... narratives like ...
“Epstein killed himself”?
“The vaccines are safe and effective”?
“Jan. 6 was an insurrection”?
“The border is secure?”
It’s not you.
It took them this long to decide to claim that the power was off hours before the grass fires?
Not buying it.
Don’t discount some puts flicking alit cigarette butt outthier car window while driving
