A new KFC campaign being run in Canada has sparked a flurry of criticism on Twitter after photos of billboards were deemed racially insensitive. The global restaurant chain has long used its slogan, “It’s finger lickin’ good,” and in the new advertisement, the company utilizes a witty attempt at proving it.
Azim Akhtar, the director of marketing for KFC Canada, excitedly shared images that depicted the reflections of two Black men and a woman of color in silverware as they ate chicken and licked their fingers. “Sorry, utensils. It’s finger lickin’ good. Latest campaign, I couldn’t be more proud!” he tweeted on Aug. 24.
The marketing effort was applauded by many for creatively playing off the slogan, which dates back to the 1950s. But Black people in particular expressed disappointment, criticizing KFC for approving a marketing plan that perpetuated racist stereotypes.
“This is why it’s important for marketers/advertisers to study art history and historic ad campaigns. The print ad vs. the video came across as a caricature display of Black people. A picture is worth a thousand words. Nah, this was a miss,” wrote one person. Another individual said the fast-chicken supplier was “bringing minstrel tropes and fried chicken back in style.”
Akhtar took notice of the scrutiny and attempted to extinguish any hard feelings by sharing the full video advertisement. In it, a cast of white, Black, Asian, old, and young people of various walks of life are shown eating fried chicken as silverware goes unused and plastic cutlery is thrown by the wayside — reiterating that the food is “finger lickin’ good.”

One can just walk out of a store without paying.
The race card...don't leave Section 8 housing without it.
Well for starters, don’t buy the over negro’d products. Don’t buy the over dyked products. Don’t buy the over queered products.
We’ve been conditioned by the media that associating peoples of color with chicken, even if it’s not fried, is racist.
Same goes for watermelon.
First, the silly article is a reprint, AND it is placed in the "Yahoo!entertainment" section of a pass-through site, so licks on Yahoo generate ad income, while the original article is not at Yahoo ---

But a couple of the Yahoo comments are great.
Comment by "James" --M A R K E T I N GSo, some unknown people write comments and the author jumps on it to create division. Typical.
Facts:
Everyone likes fried chicken.
Advertisers are using more Black people in ads than ever before.
Advertisers use Black people to advertise for fried chicken. Why? See number 2.
That's all that happened. Then a few wokester people got worked up, the woke media thought they could both push their ideology and make money of the clicks.
Result? More division, while they make money off it.
But the funny one for me was SmileyGirl --
So a video of black people eating fried chicken promotes racial stereotypes but black people eating fried chicken doesn't? Who do soul food restaurants use for advertising? Mennonites?
Yahoo!entertainment gets revenue. Revolt gets revenue. Even KFC gets some "press" thereby, which would be otherwise called "institutional advertising" if they had to pay for it. Clicks. Revenue.
Don’t just sit there pickin’ when you could be lickin’ chicken...
For takeout products, maybe you’re right. But the AA stink is on EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL. I AM SICKOFIT! Cars (that AA don’t drive in reality). Insurance. Food. Clothing. They hate me; I hate them back.
I used to love KFC decades ago, but stopped buying and eating there.
OMG, I had no idea my bride and I have been participating in a boycott for years now.
Very rarely any fast food. Never AB beer. So many "don't buy" boycotts seem to be doing well. Bud and Disney and Target.... Not bad advice. Boycott, informally.
You left out the queers and lesbians that have infiltrated the commercials. Along with the effeminate "dads" doing the laundry, changing the diapers, and doing the house cleaning.
I couldn’t find the racial insensitivity in that ad. Well maybe if it is insensitive to treat eating utensils in such a way. lol
Start eating with their toes.
They like to fill TV ads with all blacks so now it bites them back ,LOL
Try white folks in some commercials.
Oh wait, they'd be upset because whites took the job of eaten chicken, which obviously belongs to blacks.
I am so tired of the racial bullshit, that I DVR almost 100% of the little TV that I do watch, and rarely watch any commercials.
I think Dave Chappell covered that in one of his stand ups pretty well
In a few years the robots will be complaining about race as well—they are usually programmed by fanatical leftists.
“Set robots free!”
It’s Fried Chicken.
It is the left that creates “stereotypes” and propagates them into the culture. It is the left that is imbued with “racism” and they are the original purveyors.
So KFC has a catch 22 in advertising
It seem ALL currently advertising must have the vast majority of people in them be black (seems like 9 out of 10 ads ates all black)
But if your KFC advertising fried chicken
But you make it only black people eating and enjoying fried chicken in your ad.. that racists ....
Lucky the Watermelon grower of America aren’t doing an ad campaign right now
, you’d think the lesbian community would be most upset
What are we talking a Taco Bell ad?
