At the May 2 meeting, Solano County Board chairman John Vasquez said that the committee had long since completed its original mission, which he described as advising the board on revising the General Plan—which included new zoning for this largely agricultural county in Northern California.

More than sad. Covering agricultural land with cement, houses, etc should be illegal. Houses can be built anywhere other than swamps etc, but ag land is a precious natural resource.

A capitalist democracy can only continue to throw out wealth for everyone as long as neither the capital nor the democracy (i.e., the masses) gains full power over the other.
I'm not sure the founders dealt with this second balance of power issue. The very concept of private property, totally apart from the property of the King/Queen, was very new back then.
I imagine they didn't envision a non-state money power ruling the world.
