While they would have to pull and re-case/cement the damaged sections they would not have to re-drill. Re-cementing the damaged portions may also be an option without re-casing, but more risky and doesn’t last as long. Re-casing happens all the time - especially in gas wells as it just wears over time from the flow. Much easier to do.

I don't think the Russians use/used the same methods we do here in the states. I don't know if re-casing is even possible on their wells.

All of the wells at question are located in the northern reaches of Russia. Wells can only be drilled/ worked on in the winter as that is the only time the ground is hard enough. In the summer it is a sun drenched swamp with mosquitoes the size of Reaper drones.
