DeSantis says Trump can't win in a general election: 'Those are just the realities'
Fox News ^ | July 31, 2023 | Ashley Carnahan

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis sat down with "Special Report" on Monday for a wide-ranging interview, offering insight into whether former President Donald Trump can win in a general election.

DeSantis said he doesn’t believe Trump can win in 2024 because there are "too many voters who just aren't going to vote for him going forward."

"I saw it in Florida in my re-election. You know, I won the first time by less than a percent, second time by ‘20. Why did people vote against me in ‘18 but then voted for me in ‘22? The number one reason they gave was because of Trump."

"Because in ‘18 they said that they were voting against Trump. Voting against me, to vote against Trump, even though they didn't know much about me," he said. The Florida governor handily won re-election in November 2022, defeating Democratic candidate Charlie Christ by nearly 20 points.

DeSantis also told host Bret Baier that Trump can’t win crucial states like Georgia and Arizona in a general election.

"The polls that come out… I beat Biden in Georgia. Trump doesn't. I beat Biden soundly in Arizona. Trump doesn't. Those are just the realities," he said.

"And I also think in terms of the base, you need to have a cadre of personnel. If you want to slay this administrative state, you've got to be disciplined, you've got to be focused, and you've got to have people surrounding you that are going to go and support the mission. I think the former president would have a very difficult time getting the type of personnel to join the administration that you would need to actually bring this stuff to fruition," he continued.

I used to really like Ron, not much any more. Your constant shilling is part of the reason why.

Golden Eagle is not a shill - he's a true believer.

He hasn't thought it through to the end.

"And those that blow it off and suggest we move along are THE problem."

They're like the "go along, to get along" Republicans that we have in Congress. These people have no idea that what has been going on these past 8 years isn't really just about Trump. It's about the survival of this country. If they can't see that, then they need to get out of the way, and let the people who really love this country, get rid of the evil that is destroying it.

This is the same nonsensical logic Ted Cruz used. Trump responded “well if I’m tanking you must really be off the charts” paraphrasing.

“under no circumstances will vote for any Republican other than Trump.”

indeed ... people don’t seem to understand that when they are forced to vote for the lesser of two evils, that they are in fact voting for evil ...

You realize that even Jim says he’ll support DeSantis if he ends up on the ballot? We all, if respectful, belong on FR.

It isn’t just GE. Ron will throw anybody under the bus as he advances to the rear. No longer sure I’d consider him in 2028, which I used to be excited about.

But only in a fair election.

You are correct; anyone is going to get cheated.

So Ron thinks that he only eked out a win during his first run as Governor because of Trump? Trump’s endorsement nearly cost him the election?

He’s bonkers.

I still like DeSantis, but will be supporting Trump in the 2024 primary, nothing can be done to change my position.

DeSantis is mean little shit, in a time period where we need more tough guys than nice guys. In 2028 he’s one of the first candidates I’ll be looking at.

If you look at most polls, Trump and DeSantis are both equal and within the margin of error with Biden.

“Or maybe, he was just talking over your head, and you didn’t realize it.”

Yes, because I am just some rube who doesn’t understand how the system works.. if you want to think that go right ahead.. I’ll flag this thread, so when March 5th rolls around, the primary is effectively over, we’ll see who’s right... or better yet when March 19th comes around and Desantis as the sitting governor of a state, is utterly humiliated, and loses the primary there (assuming of course he hasn’t already been forced to drop out before then).. we’ll see who’s right.

Don’t try to lecture me about national polls. Desantis is underperforming Trump in the swing states as well. I was one of the first people to explain exactly how Trump was going to win 2016.

Desantis is a non starter, he isn’t outperforming Trump in the swing states, and even more importantly, he’s going to lose the Primary handily, even in the state he’s a sitting governor of.

If you think Desantis is a winning candidate, there really isn’t any hope for you. You are backing a guy who is going to LOSE the primary in the state he’s the governor of, and not by a little bit.

The “electability” argument, as I state is the last refuge of the establishment/uniparty/globalists, when the lowly “stupid” peons don’t follow their script.

You can cling to your delusions... Had to go through this crap with the Cruz, Rubio, et al folks back in 16.. nothing ever changes with the establishment/globalist/uniparty hacks... same old playbook for the last 20-30 years.

Desantis is a non starter, he can’t win a national election, he can’t even win a Primary election among Republican voters... And I don’t mean can’t win by a small margin, I mean can’t win, as will likely not even get double digits of the vote totals when its all said and done.

Hell he can’t even win his home state in a primary election, when he’s the sitting governor.

When it’s all said and done, Trump will handily win well over 60% of all the Republican primary votes cast, and Desantis won’t even be in double digits. Yet, you want to make the argument Desantis can win a national general campaign?

It’s a LAUGHABLE argument, that gets more laughable by the day.

I can’t win the primary, but dammit I can win the general....

Dumbest claim ever.

I heard this whole dumb argument before back in 16, and I was called far worse that stupid for pointing out exactly why and how Trump was going to win... The same old establishment rubes offered up the same old tired lines you are.

March will be here soon enough, and we’ll see...

You Desantis supporters are truly delusional and bye the lie that Trump can’t win...from last election results, it is obviously going to be a close election either way...this time GOP will win because of Biden approval and they know the ballot harvesting game which gave dems about 3% boast in total votes.

I have never seen a man “Desantis” who enters a primary at 33-35% support then go down to approx 12-17% since he entered 2 months ago...HES DONE...but nothing will be said until the results are concrete...as a typical politician expect him to make some excuse and drop out before the first caucus or vote is taken if his numbers don’t improve by late December.

I assume that right now 45% of the GOP will vote for Trump, no matter what. DeSantis is going have to convince the remaining 55% to vote for him. Trump has more charisma and he's better on the stump than DeSantis. But he's toxic. I just want to win. So I'm going with DeSantis, as simple as that.

It appears that DeSantis has a better chance in winning Arizona, Georgia and Wisconsin. He might pick up Nevada too.
.........
It appears? Democrats control the voting in all those states. That’s what 2022 accomplished for them. No republican wins. De Santis is deluded if he thinks he can win.

He’s right , Trump can’t win Wisconsin or PA. It was a fluke he won in 2016, it isn’t happening again.

Which gives absolutely no reason to choose Desantis.

Desanitis entire messaging is just laughably pathetic.

If he is going to claim he’s more electable, he can’t be polling at the same level... which actually he’s polling and has been polling behind Trump for nearly 5 months now vs Biden.

Desantis is a non starter, odds are better than 50/50 at this point he’ll drop out before 3/19/2024, rather than face the humiliation of being clobbered in the primary in his home state while he is the sitting governor... that is of course if he doesn’t run out of money well before then.

He’s already tanking to 3rd place in many state level polls, and his money is drying up and its still 6 months before the Iowa caucuses and 7 months before any votes get cast...

Desantis is a non starter... the “electability” argument is the last refuge of the establishment/uniparty/globalist hack... They pushed this crap to build him up, and back in Jan or so, folks bought it... they projected onto him things that just weren’t there... then something happened... they actually got to see him, and he’s got the Hillary problem... the more he’s seen, the lower he polls.

Desantis won’t get 10% of the GOP primary vote when its all said and done, but he’s going to win a national general election? The entire proposition is just flat out ludicrous.

If you look at the morning consult poll, you’ll see the reality...

If Desantis were to drop out of the race, 44% of his supporters today would move to Trump... If Trump were to drop out of the race, just 36% of his supporters would support Desantis.

Desantis is an absolute non starter in a national election... the narrative he would do better than Trump against Biden is just not true.. it’s a narrative being pushed by the usual suspects, but its not backed up by the facts.

The simple reality is this...

Trump, was the nominee as of 1/7/2020 as long as he decided to run... Had he decided not to run then we would be having a completely different conversation.. but he did, and as such he’s the nominee, and he’s going to be the nominee by well over 60% of the primary votes casts... in fact, he won’t likely lose a single state...

The reality is, everyone in this race who isn’t named Trump, is fighting for what will at most be 35% (if that) of the vote, doesn’t matter if there is 1 or 20 of them running the pool they have to divide up is 35% of the primary vote or less. There is no math were Desantis, or anyone else is going to beat Trump.

To promote the idea, that anyone who can’t beat Trump in the primary, is then going to be a better general election candidate is just flat out laughable. I can’t win my own parties voters, but somehow, miraculously, I’m going to win everyone else... This is just flat out garbage, and it’s the same old tired playbook the establishment wheels out anytime the rabble aren’t behaving trying to scare them back on the farm.

No, only fools want revenge. Most Trump supporters want honesty, truth, we love the usa what it was founded on and dislike the lies and deceit being pulled by Dems Rinos and whatever the heck Ron-Duh-Santis is. He surely loves himselfand money more than country and all its people.
