Disgraced former ABC investigative journalist James Gordon Meek is reportedly set to plead guilty to federal child pornography offenses, which could have put him behind bars for decades.
Meek, 53, is expected to change his plea to guilty during an appearance in a federal courtroom in Virginia on Friday.
The move to change his plea comes after his attorney filed a motion in June to delay his July trial, The Daily Beast reported.
The filing argued a delay would allow Meek's team and prosecutors to 'engage in discussions regarding the possible resolution of the case.'
A plea deal could allow Meek to receive a shorter sentence than the minimum five years and maximum 20 years he would have faced if convicted at trial.
The disgraced producer, 53, was indicted on three child pornography counts in April, including the possession and distribution of images depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
After an FBI raid on the Emmy Award-winning producer's Virginia home in April 2022, evidence was discovered allegedly showing Meek sent explicit images of himself to minors, impersonated an underage girl in order to engage with minors online and partook in conversations where participants expressed desire to abuse children, federal prosecutors said.
Meek's lawyer, Eugene Gorokhov, is now seeking a conditional plea that would allow his client to withdraw a guilty or no contest plea if an appeals court later rules in his favor and the evidence in the case changes.
The defense attorney alleged in pre-trial motions that the FBI raid on Meek's Arlington property illegally obtained evidence.
Although these arguments were dismissed by the judge, any later appeal may bring those allegations back into focus.
The former producer initially pleaded not guilty in the case, but court records indicate he plans to change that plea during Friday's hearing.

I went to Catholic grammar school grades 1-8. There was a 7 & 8 grade science teacher and boys sports coach that was unmarried. All us boys got the message to stay away from this guy. Don’t be ALONE with him.
There was also an older priest that ran the parish. You could always tell he was a little light in the loafers. This was in the 1960s & 70s before the homosexual pedophile priest scandal broke by the Boston Globe(Spotlight). There were always certain priests that you just knew to stay away from.
It is amazing how many homosexual men end up in school/college positions. When I was at SU one of my roommates took a side job doing some painting for a middle aged male professor.
After finishing up the second day the guy asked my buddy: “how about a “quickie” ?
My buddy was so shocked when he realized what he was asking about that he just said: “ahh, no thanks, I don’t go that way”.
The guy paid him for the painting and he never returned.
His mistake was that when he returned to the house where we all lived that he told us all about it. Until we all graduated we used to tease him about: “Hey Tom, how about a quickie?”
We never let him forget about it.

We have the internet:
I guess it is a mystery we may never solve.
Because I read about child porn in Reader's Digest back in the early 80's.
