SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Jack Mogannam, manager of Sam’s Cable Car Lounge in downtown San Francisco, relishes the days when his bar stayed open past midnight every night, welcoming crowds that jostled on the streets, bar hopped, window browsed or just took in the night air.
He's had to drastically curtail those hours because of diminished foot traffic, and business is down 30%. A sign outside the lounge pleads: “We need your support!”

They had Grand Plans for the neighborhood in ‘The People’s Republic of Madistan’ when the Oscar Mayer processing plant closed, too.
This is from January, 2023. The plant closed in 2017, nearly seven years now. Still not much happening over there - I was in the neighborhood for a birthday party not long ago.
They’re going to cater to Seniors, which is nice, but no real ‘jobs’ to be had other than some retail. Oh, and there will be a job TRAINING center, which seems to happen with all of these new developments. We don’t HAVE a job for you, but we can TRAIN you how to get one...in another town or state! Brilliant strategy. ;)
