OK, why isn’t 16 correct?
2 + 2 = 4
4 x 4 = 16
What did I miss?
Order of operations says multiply before adding.
The answer is 10.
According to 4th/5th grade math, when there are no brackets/parentheses, the order of calculation is multiplication first. So, 2 x 4 = 8. 2 + 8 = 10. It was a long time ago.

When I taught 7th-grade Math, I sometimes used Math Antics videos to introduce or review a concept. The links below are to Order of Operations.
(Note: I would change the last two steps. Instead of using the word “and,” I used “OR, whichever comes first, left to right.”)

Although there are other video options out there, these guys are consistently the best that I watched! - And I spent a lot of time trying to find just the right ones to share with my students.
without brackets inticating the order in which to process the formula, multiplication and division are always performed first, in the order in which they appear left to right, then addition and subtraction in the same order.
10
What was disturbing is how many couldn’t do a simple math problem.
