You invested years into trying to red-pill your neighbour. It sounds like he meets Yuri Bezmenov’s definition of “demoralized”. Yuri states that “people who have been gradually demoralized are unable to understand that this has happened to them. Exposure to true information does not matter any more,” said Bezmenov. “A person who [is] demoralized is unable to assess true information. The facts tell nothing to him. Even if I shower him with information, with authentic proof, with documents, with pictures; even if I take him by force to the Soviet Union and show him [a] concentration camp, he will refuse to believe it, until he [receives] a kick in his fan-bottom. When a military boot crashes his balls then he will understand. But not before that. That’s the [tragedy] of the situation of demoralization.”

Yuri continues “They are contaminated; they are programmed to think and react to certain stimuli in a certain pattern. You cannot change their mind, even if you expose them to authentic information, even if you prove that white is white and black is black, you still cannot change the basic perception and the logic of their behavior. In other words, in these people… the process of demoralization is complete and irreversible.”

Maybe you could give him a copy of Yuri’s essay on demoralization and then disconnect before your neighbour demoralizes you.

Thanks for that.

Decades ago I read an article about that. Your post reminded me of it. I don’t know if it mentioned Bezmenov, but the same idea.

It talked about experiments with dogs and found that a large percentage of them would eventually give up hope. They were subjected to electric shocks with no means of escape, then suddenly one day the same situation but with an obvious exit. Some dogs took advantage of the opportunity to leave the room. Others were resigned to the shocks and just lay there in despair. (As a dog lover, I object to this cruelty. The shocks were described as unpleasant but not torture. Still, I regard it as mental torture.)

Similar studies with other species including humans found the same results. I forget how they experimented on humans - not electric shocks. Maybe just historical data of some sort.

The article claimed that a certain percentage of us (30% IIRC) were natural optimists or had natural resilience or something like that.

My guess is that all of us here on the Q threads are in that 30%. I think it’s up to us to herd along and help the other 70% with varying degrees of ability to cope.

There are some people I will just cut off because they are extreme downers and not worth the effort. Maybe someone else can reach them. I suspect some of them of being DS. Plus, I choose to use my time for those who I consider reachable and/or worth the effort. Those others I will continue to try and educate, though I have to pace myself because there is only so much doom I am willing to deal with in a day.

I will NEVER GIVE UP. Thanks to all of you here on the Q threads for being in the 30% with me.
