Fortunately, our heat wave doesn’t last long.
The Monsoons will cool us right down.
It’s the waiting for them to hit that is fun, not!
What your husband’s grandfather had sounds like what we called a swamp cooler.
That’s what we used growing up in Albuquerque and in our 1st home in Phx. after I married.
Only the wealthy people has AC back then.

That’s it, but do you think I could recall what we called it. Google called them evaporator units. :-)

Thanks LG!
Maybe that was it!
He certainly had all we needed living next to him when hit by a hurricane!
He had a generator also to help us and his neighbor!
Wonderful man!
Pop King was a rancher back in his day and raised Brahma Cattle,he Also kept all his gas and oil royalties when he sold his land and therefore my three daughters inherited all this to this day! Very Strong and Wise Man. Too bad his grandson ,my daughters father was not as a good man. Ha! Another story about that. :)

Is anyone here old enough to remember these canvas water bags from back in the day?
People would hang them off a car somewhere - hood ornament or outside mirror - and the bag would cool the drinking water by evaporation as the car sped along.
