‘The Little Mermaid’ Washes Away Box Office Competition with $117 Million Domestic Opening Weekend

It’s making lots of money for Disney.
For Memorial Day weekend, it’s not that great, also consider it had little competition.
It will drop off bigly this week.
The production budget was reportedly $200 to $250 million. General rule of thumb is that after you deduct marketing and distribution costs and the theaters' cut, a movie has to make at least 2.5 times the production budget before it even breaks even.
So it will not make any money for Disney until it hits $500 to $625 million at the box office. It has a long way to go.
Its gotta make $600 million to break even. Not likely.
