I have a hard time believing blacks in Idaho earn more than Asians living there. Whites I can understand.
Fascinating. Mostly Republican state.
My daughter lived in Priest River for decades. I visited a lot, don’t think I ever saw a Black person. I’m in Spokane and my favorite neighbor is a Black army vet. He’s everyones favorite person, very kind, intelligent, involved with civic groups. I’ve appointed him Mayor of our apartment complex, and everyone agrees that he is.

For Asians, when there are few of them, they tend to disproportionately run small businesses, which rarely shows big incomes (at least as reported).
For whites, probably a lot of retirees with tons of money, but not much income, since they don’t need it.
For blacks (just guessing), maybe a lot of blue-collar trades people, jobs that are now done by Hispanics in most of the country, but not as much up there.
Idaho-1.5% black population, Illinois-14.13%.
Percent theory? What is tipping point?
Idaho-60.1% gun owners, Illinois 27.8% per Pew Research (best estimate) April 2023. Any correlation?
Agreed. Also, Asians seem to be drawn to areas where other Asians have already set up shop, and these are often urban or suburban areas. In Chicago’s “Little Hanoi,” for example, if a nail salon opened on one corner, soon there would be two or three more nail salons within a block! Also, a certain type of person — independent-minded, self-sufficient — is drawn to places like Idaho, and this includes a few blacks. I’ve noticed that in areas with very few blacks, the blacks who do live there are indistinguishable from the white residents — same values, similar temperament, same general financial situation.
Wow, that is an outstanding article with so many highly relevant and startling points. The article is very uplifting because it shows the power of meritocracy, hard work, family, faith, and capitalism for all citizens, all of the things that the federal government has set out to destroy.
We live in Idaho and my family roots here go back to 1920, so this is an especially relevant article for me.
Here in North Idaho, you don’t see many black people, but those I’ve met or observed are happy, well-adjusted, polite, and don’t have chips on their shoulders. Success through hard work tempers angry thoughts and tamps down the sense of entitlement rampant throughout most of the USA.
Kinda sounds like one of those read between the lines stories crack houses?.
Seems like a LOT of variables unaccounted for. Sadly, rumors of Boise being lib haven are likely true these days. Once the population centers get enough voting power (real or not) then guess what happens. Like NevaDUH, two counties run the entire state. The other 14 counties? Too bad, so sad, your dad! One reason I prefer Mrs Rktman’s idea of one county=one vote. At least the democommies would have to put forth some effort for a while until they can move enough miscreants into rural locales. 😉👍
Wonder if that will affect their reparations for slavery claim?
“Unlike many other states, Idaho’s societal climate of self-reliance and its embrace of economic and personal freedom, plus respect for those who work hard to achieve the American dream, made it a place where a tight-knit but integrated black community could flourish.”
What a novel idea!
Rural areas are not the cross-burning, lynching communities as portrayed in the media. Also you will find more racism in northern urban cities than you will find in rural Georgia.
I once saw Barbra Streisand in Sun Valley.
I'm sorry to hear that. I trust you've recovered alright.
“Black Idahoans’ focus on capitalism and individual initiative,” So the view would not consider them black.
Meanwhile, the refugee industry is making sure Idaho turns blue.
Funny story, I literally just walked right past her, and thought, “oh, that’s Barbra Streisand” and walked on, I turned around to see my wife virtually hyperventalating, and she forced me to basically “stalk” her for the next hour while she was doing her shopping.
The things we do for love, I suppose.
