Tributes have poured in for slain gorilla Harambe on the seventh anniversary of his death - after he was killed when a toddler fell into his enclosure at Cincinnati zoo.
A four-year-old boy fell into the enclosure just minutes before the 400-pound animal was fatally shot. At the time, authorities said the boy crawled past the railing and fell 10 feet into the gorilla's habitat, where he spent more than 10 minutes.
The worldwide attention that followed the death of Harambe sparked thousands of memes and parody videos, making the ape a pop culture phenomenon.
And seven years later, people across social media still remembered the animal on the anniversary of his death.
The Gwinnett Stripers, a minor league triple-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves, wrote online: 'The Gwinnett Stripers would like to take a moment to remember the life of a kind soul. Harambe tragically lost his life on this day 7 years ago. #NeverForget #Harambe.'

Maybe we should ask for tomorrow to be a national day of mourning ... no monkey business allowed.
Giving a gorilla a name does not make it a human. A human is a person even if he/she doesn’t yet have a name.
The dumbest thing I have read today.
If it weren’t for liberals, this would be the dumbest thing I have read in years.
It’s an animal, for crying out loud. Get over it people......
Humblegunner, this thread is calling your name! Hope all is well with you.
On my bucket list is a trip to Rwanda to see highland/lowland gorillas.
Someone failed to take proper care of the 4-year-old boy, thus causing the zoo to be deprived of a valuable exhibit. That person should be required to spend the rest of his or her life occupying the gorilla habitat at the Cincinnati Zoo.
They should have charged the cost of getting another gorilla and permanently banned from the zoo!
Maybe that happened but I doubt it.
Exactly! No mention of the parents whatsoever.
I guess we are to assume that the baby crawled of his secure crib, all the way to the zoo, and got himself into the gorilla’s cage.
Humans are animals too.
Buying another gorilla would be too easy. The negligent caretaker should have to substitute personally for the gorilla, for life.
I thought that hamburger tasted differently…
I’d like to say more, but I’m off to a memorial service for a germ that was killed by Bactine spray.
Negligence on the part of the adults caused the death of the gorilla. I’m seeing more and more of this. There is some really stupid behavior on the part of parents that’s become common.
A few years ago some parents put their toddler on top of the barrier separating the public from a wild dog exhibit. The kid fell in and was killed. The moron parents tried to sue the zoo.
.... after he was killed when a toddler fell into his enclosure at Cincinnati zoo.
Boy that must have been some big fat toddler. To kill a gorilla just by falling on him.
‘The world hasn’t been the same since’
