A nut jumped off the Pennybacker bridge in Austin, TX a few years ago. A ~130’ drop. He survived, thanks to a nearby boat watching the whole thing. He was picked up the moment he resurfaced and complained of a headache. Then he spent a brief recovery in the hospital.
The sad kid in the OP could have been knocked out or even broke his neck, depending on how far he fell.

Young men do crazy things sometimes. If this kid jumped into the water from a lower level, then he did nothing any crazier than what I witnessed young men do when I was young.
I hope he reached the lifebuoy. There are stories of people surviving a long time floating in the ocean after falling overboard.
