“My husband was a Drill Sergeant in the Army in the early 60’s.”
God Bless your hubby, maybe trained mine at Benning in 1968.
Good training there, hubby was a Staff Sergeant and in charge of a mortar platoon in Nam.
Lived off base in Colombus GA while he was training, rented a small trailer, all we could afford. I always laugh when I remember how when you sat on the toilet your knees were under the sink.
You are right about this generation, very spoiled and wanting everything.
A lot of them would not go fight for our country if called.
Tell hubby, thank you.
Stay safe.
I’ll tell him! He’s proud of serving but he doesn’t talk about some of it much. He trained the boys to jump out of planes (jump instructor), marksmanship, hand-to-hand combat, and everything they needed to know before going to Nam. He said the only time he got really scared was in Korea when one of his “boys” went crazy and started shooting at the others. He was afraid he’d have to shoot him to keep anybody from getting killed, but he didn’t. He still has night terrors about that one.
He lived in Columbus for a while when he was married to the first wife. They were married 20 years and we have been married almost 40. I still have to remind him occasionally that he’s not in the Army anymore. 🙄
God bless your hubby too! They don’t make them like our guys anymore.
