"Coup" is a shortened, anglicized version of the original latin res, and attendant French Coupe d'Etat, or Coupe of the State, which was in ancient times a chariot specially outfitted to transport the new leaders of the government.

It was usually a a two-wheeled horse-drawn vehicle used in battle but for parade use as a Coupe, or coup would be adorned as deemed appropriate to the occasion by the new leaders of the state.

BTW, Cadillac Mountain is the place of first light (sunrise) on CONUS in the winter months. In the summer, it happens at Mars Hill mountain, named for Hezekiah Mars.
