Why the DeSantis Braintrust Thinks It Can Actually Beat Trump
Politico ^ | 05/12/2023 | JONATHAN MARTIN

When I pressed him on why DeSantis seems so publicly fixated on the MAGA wing of the GOP, Cox was charitable.

“It’s a really tough party right now,” he said. “No one else has figured out how to unify and bring the party together. [DeSantis] has clearly made the calculation he needs to be a good alternative for Trump diehard voters out there.”

The assumption, other top Republicans say, is that more moderate Republicans like Cox will fall in line with DeSantis because the alternative is Trump.

I’m less convinced of that, at least for now. DeSantis may have to take more aggressive steps to pull the ungainly anti-Trump coalition together, particularly if he wants to winnow the field by the end of this calendar year. It may seem contrived, but the challenge of dethroning Trump is going to require extreme measures. (A DeSantis-Tim Scott unity ticket?)

They are stupid as the neocon morons that think they can win the proxy war they started with Russia. In other words, completely delusional.

Most people, certainly the elite and the multi bils, like these guys, the bad guys, bushobamaclintons (not mutually exclusive of the former), and most people I know underestimate Trump.

That’s all. Even after eight years.

Since DeSantis would be fighting the Democrats, the media, and the entire RINO apparatus, he doesn’t have much chance.

Maybe they can.

I would not vote for him under any circumstances.

I would rather see Desantis stay out of the 2024 race. I worry that he will destroy his future chances to be president by pissing off over half the voters. I'm a Trump supporter until 2024. I won't vote for any other person unless Trump doesn't run. He earned my support until the 2024 election.

You would vote for Biden or another Democrat, instead of DeSantis?

If DeSantis is top of ticket in ‘28, I’ll vote for him. If he’s top of ticket in ‘24, we can expect to lose the presidency again.

“why DeSantis seems so publicly fixated on the MAGA wing of the GOP”

Because DC has only 3 electoral votes. Next question!

While he will receive the same amount of opposition from them, the truth is, he is one of them. He is a politician. He is beholden to the party and the party donors, not the people. He won't get nearly the heat Trump does, because Trump stands in the way of politicians.

Absol-friggin-lutely. I'd rather have the enemy out front where I can fight instead of being stabbed in the back. We've been voting for the same republicrats for decades, and we get nowhere. It's time for that to end. If that means voting for the dummycrats and letting it all go to hell, that would be preferable. Far more chance of righting the ship at that point than we have now without Trump.

DeSantis needs to wait until 2028, and rid his campaign of all the neo-con deadwood.
