Why the DeSantis Braintrust Thinks It Can Actually Beat Trump
Politico ^ | 05/12/2023 | JONATHAN MARTIN

When I pressed him on why DeSantis seems so publicly fixated on the MAGA wing of the GOP, Cox was charitable.

“It’s a really tough party right now,” he said. “No one else has figured out how to unify and bring the party together. [DeSantis] has clearly made the calculation he needs to be a good alternative for Trump diehard voters out there.”

The assumption, other top Republicans say, is that more moderate Republicans like Cox will fall in line with DeSantis because the alternative is Trump.

I’m less convinced of that, at least for now. DeSantis may have to take more aggressive steps to pull the ungainly anti-Trump coalition together, particularly if he wants to winnow the field by the end of this calendar year. It may seem contrived, but the challenge of dethroning Trump is going to require extreme measures. (A DeSantis-Tim Scott unity ticket?)

How are Two establishment Repuke politicians a unity ticket. It’s Trump or bust, I wouldn’t care who wins if Trump is not in the game but the only “unity ticket” without Trump would have to have Kari Lake and that’s not going to happen.ill stress, I still wouldn’t be supportive

You would vote for Biden or another Democrat, instead of DeSantis?

why in the world are you jumping so far ahead of your skies?

What about the PRIMARIES, do you believe in them?

Since so little has been done to combat the massive vote fraud and election rigging, particularly in the states that matter, it’s unlikely that Republicans will win anything in 2024….
Where the hell is the RNC with tons of lawyers in those states filing mega-lawsuits against state and local officials…?? Rona, Rona? Are you out there??

I jumped so far ahead because someine said he would not vote for DeSantis under any circumstances.

I interpreted “any circumstances” to mean a general election not just a primary election.

Yes I believe in primary elections.

Yes I believe in primary elections.

That is good to hear, as in this case since only the Turtle keeps conservative Senators from winning, there is no chance anyone will be stuffing the belot boxes for DeSentis

Here’s the difference between Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis. Trump wants to make America great again. DeSantis just wants to be President.

He lacks authenticity when he talks. I don’t trust him. I don’t want to go back to the lawyer politician pool for presidents. I am not parsing like we used to. Got sick and tired of it during the Clinton era.

Agreed. That's the OTHER side of this whole debate that remains largely unaddressed.

The Republicans need a couple of seasoned candidates who can compete against each other without causing irreparable harm to one another. They need to look at not just the next horizon, but the horizons after that. Some good, hard debates would serve to help the candidates hone their skills and get ready to storm the next hill. One of the things that made Biden and Harris such bad candidates is they were carried through the process and never had to develop any skills. While that works for Democrats it will not work for Republicans.

You can’t have a RINO wolf in MAGA sheep’s clothing without the MAGA sheep clothing.

Did Regan hurt his 1980 chances by running against Ford in 1976?

"Why the DeSantis Braintrust Thinks It Can Actually Beat Trump"

FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument

As a side note to this thread, please consider the following.

Patriots, do not be fooled when "beloved" FN claims that the Oval Office is the most powerful office in the land.

More specifically, we don't want incumbent or former governors taking the vast state powers that they used to make their states thrive with them to the constitutionally limited power Oval Office and use those same state powers to likewise try to make the nation thrive.

Doing so is why everybody is now being oppressed under the boots of an unconstitutionally big federal government.

Before anybody else wins the Oval Office, Trump 47 first needs to finish draining the swamp. This hopefully includes not only cleaning up judiciary, but also working with the states to surrender state powers that the corrupt, post-17th Amendment ratification feds have been stealing from the states back to the states.

From the congressional record:

”Simply this, that the care of the property, the liberty, and the life of the citizen, under the solemn sanction of an oath imposed by your Constitution, is in the States and not in the federal government [emphases added]. I have sought to effect no change in that respect in the Constitution of the country.” —John Bingham, Congressional. Globe. 1866, page 1292 (see top half of third column)

Given that the drafters of the Constitution had intended for the peacetime, constitutionally limited power federal government to basically be a lame duck 24/7, the states constitutionally limiting federal domestic policy mainly to delivering the mail imo, after Trump finishes draining the swamp he can wrap up his second term by following in Obama's footsteps by spending most of his time on the golf course, Trump's Oval Office successors spending even more time on golf course.

I’m beginning to doubt that DeSantis will run. Unless something causes Trump to drop out, the polls for the Republican primary make it seem foolish for DeSantis to try to get the nomination. DeSantis doesn’t seem like a foolish guy to me.

You’ve captured DeSantis’ flaws perfectly.

I see many comments from Freepers calling on DeSantis to wait until 2028. I’m not one of them … because I’ve never been sold on this guy as a presidential candidate.

There are 13 million voters who will stop voting after Trump is gone for this reason:

Uniparty

Those here and elsewhere pushing DeSantis etc don’t realize what it really means to uniparty haters - a push to eliminate the one man who got more votes than any politician ever (Biden did NOT get 81 million votes) and inspired the largest and longest grassroots movement in history. Additionally, they are targeting this movement and have been since 2016.

So……..those running against Trump with the flimsy excuse that he cannot win while ignoring that THEY cannot win the primary = anti MAGA.

When Cruz said ‘Trump is responsible for the Chicago riot…..
When most of the GOP ignored MAGA to this day……
When DeSantis ignored the infighting amongst voters…..
When ‘conservative’ media exposed their uniparty support……

The real contest isn’t putting a Republican in as president, it’s sending a message to the GOP party - MAGA or else. They are banking on shortsighted GOP voters to worry more about who can possibly win instead of fortifying MAGA on the ground and in government - kill MAGA by taking out the leader first. DeSantis is complicit as are those who support him.

My state, Ohio, has GOP majority including the gov and is passing conservative legislation. I’m happy with that and happy my governor isn’t pulling a DeSantis. He is staying in his lane. I would have voted for DeSantis in 2028 had this not happened. As it stands, Byron Donalds is the only man thus far that I might consider. Only bonafide MAGA credentials matter….and DeSantis lost all MAGA credentials by trying to take out the leader, PERIOD.

I’ve said all along that DeSantis doesn’t want to run in 2024.

He’s being pushed into this by GOP political insiders and donors.

Unfortunately for Americans, DeSantis is a career government hack who will do whatever he’s told to do by these people. He probably hasn’t had an original thought in his head since he was in high school.

If he wasn’t running his campaign managers wouldn’t be inviting Politico to Tallahassee to sell them on Ron and talking up what happens “once he enters the race”, he wouldn’t be going to Iowa tomorrow or Nevada next week, etc.

Rudy said to Kari Lake last week Desantis has already crossed the point of no return. There is no coming back in 2028.
