Sounds just like my childhood.

I hated ‘washdays’

The cast iron pot was located a good hundred feet (or so it seemed to me!) from the house where we had rain barrels to catch the water off the tin roof for washing clothes.... on a washboard!.....then hung on the line, nowadays called a ‘Solar Clothes dryer! LOL!................

I remember the washboards. The women had a stick[ broom handle or mop handle] that they stirred the clothes in the pot fished them out to cool off, then rubbed them on the washboard. The children pumped the water for the wash, to water the animals, and for the house. What would children do if they had to do that today?
