At the Walmart I shop I believe ammo and ethnic hair
care products are the only things under lock and key.

Are the other shelves mostly bear or well stocked.
The Walmart and other stores I visit have a lot of
bare shelve space.
I visited a Wal-Mart in Charlotte recently to look at sheets. It has a primarily “ethnic” clientele. The higher thread-count sheets were locked in a case. The lower count were not. Odd. An employee tried to help me but the store WiFi was down and her store handheld device couldn’t open the cabinet’s ELECTRONIC lock. She actually downloaded an app to her personal phone, logged in and opened the case. Quite clever on her part.
That’s why I think the video is either fake or Target’s locking everything up is a poor decision that will result in the store closing for reason you mentioned.
Druggies, the criminally-mentally ill, and just plain thugs are a protected class in Kalifornia. There’s really nothing to stop them from doing whatever they want. Those glass doors at Target will just be extra entertainment for them, as vandalism and destruction is what that protected class does best.

No informed person would. Unfortunately, the key word there is “informed”. Way too many people are held in the grip of the leftist media. They won’t even hear about things like this Target story.
And for those who are directly affected by this madness, it’s the old frog in a warming pot story. Things are getting worse, but gradually. And all the while the media is saying how evil the Republicans are.
This will be a hard cycle to break.
While I was teaching at Creighton University, I did a study to compare prices at grocery stores in urban versus suburban stores for one large chain. The urban store prices were about 15% higher than the same basket of goods in the suburbs. When we interviewed store managers and asked why, they all had the same response: Shoplifting.
Result: A transfer of income from the good guys to the bad guys.
Damn! Alls I needed was some butt cream for my seveer anal itch but I’ll go to Walgreens, Thanks.

Just before the Covid B$ hit N. California, many of our Walmarts and Targets started locking expensive stuff up.
They would bring the stuff to the cash register, when we checked out.
After Covid hit, we ordered on line and picked up our orders in designated parking. They didn’t want us getting out of our vehicles. They put the order in our trunk and asked us to leave.
So, We really didn’t know what was actually in our orders until we got home. We averaged 3-5 items not received nor charged.
The crews varied from good workers to “I hate this job!”
So we stopped using them.

Many years ago I was watching one of those TV news shows. It might have been ‘60 Minutes’. The correspondent was interviewing a new African president. The conversation went something like this:
Correspondent: Mr. President, crime has decreased significantly since you took office.
President: Yes, that is true.
Correspondent: Please tell us how you did it.
President: We shoot all the bad peoples.
The correspondent looked like he was going to faint. That was certainly not the answer he expected!
