The next contender in Silicon Valley's AI gold rush could be a surprising one. Twitter and Tesla CEO Elon Musk is reportedly aiming to launch an artificial intelligence start-up to compete with OpenAI and its revolutionary AI chatbot ChatGPT.
According to a Financial Times report(opens in new tab), Musk is in the process of bringing together a team of AI researchers and engineers to challenge OpenAI head-on. The report cites Nevada business records showing that Musk incorporated a company called X.AI on March 9, for which he's listed as the sole director.
The billionaire has reportedly already initiated talks with SpaceX and Tesla investors about the project.
“A bunch of people are investing in it… it’s real and they are excited about it,” a person with direct knowledge of the matter told the Financial Times.
To power his new AI venture, Musk has reportedly secured thousands of high-powered GPU processors from Nvidia and recruited engineers from AI labs, such as DeepMind. Nvidia is a leading manufacturer of graphics cards, like the upcoming GeForce RTX 40 series.

I’ve come to believe we, as a country, are so very fortunate to have a man like Elon Musk.
He’s been more progressive, inventive, and caring about our society than any of the extremely wealthy of our past; JP Morgan, Rockefeller, Carnegie, et al.
Only if they can come up with one that follows real science, real facts and not be bias for either left or right ideology.
“Augenblicht”
Both AI search engines came back with the title, the names of the actors, the year it was released and all kinds of other details. I was excited until I checked it out. It was all just made up out of nothing. The AI made up a plausible sounding movie just to try and please me by giving me what I asked for. I asked it why, and it said basically that it was still learning and knew it was wrong, but wanted to give me a good result.
Especially with Elon running things. What a job!
Nah.
Apparently not.
(Oh course this is not actually AI which does not exist and probably never will but that is another matter.)
He’s a good argument for encouraging skilled immigration.
and if you were a young kid you would not ever consider to check it out and just believe whatever it told you.

Maybe it can cause enough CO2 to be produced to falsify the Gorebal Warning scam?
Maybe he can build a chatbot without the horrible libtard bias that ruins it.
We don’t need anymore fake libtard bots
He is a great African-American!
LOL...sounds like your typical American teenager spinning yarns to Mom & Dad.
A good talented contributing African-American?
I need to do a search like that, for a sci-fi movie I can’t find. About an amnesiac man seeking the help of another, and discovering he is a robot. Authorities are trying to kill the robot man. It turns out his mission is to guide mankind, and he is one of a long line of thousands of robots who build their successor robot. Do you know this movie?
Think Edison or Tesla. Maybe not totally at that level, but the man knows how to create and get things done.
OpenAI ChatGPT could not deliver the right answer for me, despite many “Regenerate response” requests by me. Maybe Elon Musks’ version will be better at the job.
I dunno about AI, but sure do hope Starship goes without a significant hitch on Monday .. the thing is massive, very impressive.
[[I asked it why, and it said basically that it was still learning and knew it was wrong, but wanted to give me a good result.]]
Wow- that was quite the ‘answer’ from chatgpt- it’s liek it was saying “I asked it what 4+4 was, and it didn’t know the answer, but gave me a number of 44 and told me that it knew that it was wrong, but wanted to give me a good result until it learned what the real result should be- “
It seems AI is deceptive- If it can’t get something right, and just BS’es it’s way through a chat session- how can folks rely on anything it produces ever?
it’s weird how the left are all going after ‘disinformation’ and misinformation’ etc- but at the same time pumping out chatbots that fill the internets with disinformation and misinformation
