Recently rumored that Netflix and Hulu are disscussing
changing their platform subscription fees to 'free'.
Though Netflix has pretty much shot itself in both
feet, this might interest some deplorables.
So be on your toes for future developments.

I cancelled all my streaming services only because there is so much out there you can get for free (though with ads).

I'm assuming Netflix and others are looking into an ad-supported model. I would be all in for that, for their original content alone. I really don't mind the ads so much.

Ad-supported seems to be the most popular.

Those are okay, except that some run up to 8 short ad that do run several minutes in frequent clusters. Some run as few as one or two per ad break.

Peacock runs a few ads at the beginning of a movie, and then have no more ads until the end of the movie.

I heard one exec of Hulu several years ago say they intended to eventually increase the advertising amount to the level ads are on broadcast/network/cable/satellite now.

Not everything on Netflix is woke. I am currently the series on The Hatfields & McCoys with Kevin Costner, Tom Berlinger and Bill Paxton. It is excellent.

I've been streaming free movies with ads and I use the ad time to check my social media (like here on Free Republic) or go to the bathroom. Ads don't bother me. Paying the $12/mo or whatever it is did bother me because sometimes I'll go three months without watching anything and will have paid $36 for nothing.

To answer other posters on this thread, Netflix having "woke" content doesn't bother me and that wasn't why I cancelled it. I just don't click on that content. I would think it silly if a Democrat cancelled Netflix for having a Trump documentary. All they have to do is ignore it like I ignore their stuff.

I don’t have Netflix or Hulu but, not going to lie, the streaming services with forced ads (“1 of 8”, etc) drive me up a wall. I enjoyed things much better when I had cable service and could just DVR everything and fast forward thru the commercials. Of course the tradeoff is I pay much less than previously with cable.

I think you miss my point. I don’t watch them. I use that time to do other things like check my social media, go to the bathroom, or get something to drink.

Recently visited Tubi (via Roku) and was amazed at their
changes made. Their new faith category, a pleasant surprise. trouble with Tubi is two: their ads increase in volume *loud* compared to their movies. The second fault, though not specifically theirs, is the fact of the movie plot and star actors when making the description. Recently searched for “Ray Miland/The Uninvited”. Came up with 3 different movies with the same title BUT no Ray; none of
the three was the actual, original movie (the one I was hoping to find.

Still, they do offer a wide variety.

I hope Netflix stays as is. It has the best interface IMO and I have no desire to sit through commercials although I will do it to watch certain content.

you couldn’t pay me enough to sit or wait through ads ... my little remaining time is WAY more valuable than to waste it like that ... if i can’t pay for ad-free entertainment, then i’m done ...
