Small, non-rare silver coins are clearly the best for SHTF stash. They are the closest in value to a bag of groceries.
I noted back thread a ways that hock/coin shops traffic in miscellaneous silver/gold stuff is way up. People are turning in the family gravy boats, etc. I always see this when times turn down a bit.
Just yesterday, getting my change from a local general store, there was a 1920 coin in the mix.. That’s anecdotal but it means someone was cashing in their stash to buy something they needed.
In the current case, which I see getting worse way before better, I kind of expect to see hock shop outlets open up near grocery stores. With younger folks not being sentimental about the old folks family table silver, and with 3/4/5 seniors dieing every day in my general neighborhood I’m seeing lots of signs this sort of traffic is picking up.
But buy/acquire coins in a form that is easily identifiable: US, dated, common denominated. Do not go our of your way to get commemorative stuff, ingots, etc. because it will be heavily discounted when you cash it in what with assaying and all.
Aside coming..
The highly vaunted “Gang of Eight” receive from the Justice Department three sets of kept docs from the cache of Biden, POTUS and Pious Pence.
In the name of national security, the JD has complied to their request for documents.
The little beavers are, naturally, most interested in only one of the three sets. The one LEGAL set kept by the only Commander In Chief among the three and the one among them with classification and DECLASSIFICATION authority.
How is this going to work out, with Warner and Schumer on the case? What to do with McConnell in quarantine of some kind, with a crack in his shell?
May the ongoing US Intelligence Leaks eventually thumb up a file on Lindsey Graham.
And that paper money identified as “Silver Certificates” are valuable only for antiquity and collecting.
Junk dime - $1.85
Junk quarter - $4.62
Melt value. Worth checking your change.
Do you have a trusted source for the small silver coins? This is all new to me.
Thank you.
Goldbacks?
