Know your Nautical Terminology
The Beach
A term used broadly to refer to land or the shore, and not necessarily literally to a beach. For example, a ship which turns toward the shore can be said to have turned toward the beach, and a person or object on land can be said to be on the beach.
On the Beach
1. A Royal Navy term that means "retired from the Service."
2. On shore leave.
