Oh yeah. And a side of dill pickle slices. But now I want this for lunch and I don’t have American cheese. I have the butter, white (well, sourdough) bread and pickles. I’ll have to use cheddar.
Is it lunchtime yet?
Grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup reminds me of childhood lunches with mom.
Cause it’s gross. I swore off that crap 30 years ago, I respect the concept of cheese too much to eat the fake slices. Fake stuff in jars with spices (ie nacho cheese) that’s a different matter entirely.
My fav is NY Extra Sharp Cheddar..................
A millennial is a person that became an adult after the turn of the century...............
I was in a Dollar Store - saw a pack of “American Slices” on sale for $1, so I bought it.
Got them home, and realized - it contained NO DAIRY. Was all soybean oil, emulsifiers, stabilizers, etc
Hire people with hooks.
It makes a great lube.........................or so I’ve heard......................
A millennial is someone born roughly between 1984 and 2000. Exactly when can vary based on whom you ask. Generally deservedly mocked for a general lack of skills and mental and physical fortitude. I say all this as one myself.
“No cows were harmed in the making of this product.”.........................

“You are a fluke of the universe. You have no right to be here.”
(Haven’t heard the Deteriorata in forever.)
I confess when it comes to melted cheese, I prefer Swiss over American.
You know who was the singer on that?
For supper the other night, i made cheeseburgers in a frying pan using American. Delishioso! Just like in the old days.
Cheeseburger! Cheesburger!...Chip! Chip!.....Pepsi! Pepsi!...............
As I’ve gotten older, I have become lactose intolerant.
I miss the cheese, but my stomach “doesn’t like it.”
I’m okay without it, since I need to eat less anyway.
I used to love a slice of American cheese with baloney and mayo for my school lunches. Hot, hot, hot Taco Chips made bright orange with cheese powder used to be another favorite.
My Grandma made a superb Mac & Cheese Casserole, with the top of the casserole slightly toasted.
I’m pretty sure the local White Castle restaurant put Velveeta on top of their little burgers. Guess what?
It was delicious! There is no shame in eating Velveeta, no matter what ‘they’ say.
I agree about the singles. But you’ll have to pry the Kraft American Cheese in a block from my cold dead yellowed greasy fingers which are wrapped around a grilled cheese butter and sourdough sandwich. That’s real Artisan sourdough with starter not that vinegar fake sourdough crap.
True for good coffee, good beer and IPA, good bread, good chocolate, good apple cider and many other "artisanal" foods from local makers. I love the fact that even our big Safeway dedicates room to smaller supplier food products.
I discovered good beer (Anchor Steam) and good coffee (at Caravansary) when I moved to San Francisco from Missouri in 1973. I haven't looked back. I think that was when I had my last can of Budweiser, Schlitz or Coors.
The story mentions the "Cowgirl Creamery" in Marin County, CA. I wholeheartedly endorse their recommendation. They make the best cheese ever.
